It wasn't long after she found Jim and Dwight that she was ushered off to the clinic despite protests that it was way too early for her to really be giving birth. Nevermind the fact that it was obvious her water had broken and the contractions were happening closer together now ( Read more... )

John, once he was sure the messy and noisy part was over, tentatively made his way into the clinic to check up on Jim and Pam, and get to meet the baby.

He'd felt the same kind of weird awe when he'd seen Kara after Calliope was born, and when he saw Pam holding her own kid there, that awe was mixed with a little pride.

John made his way over to the bedside, pulling a chair over quietly even if Pam was awake. "Hey, you survived," he said, giving her a smile.

"Hi," Pam greeted him tiredly, giving him a smile. She leaned in a little, mindful of the baby in her arms, and added, "I think I almost broke Jim's hand though."

She looked slightly guilty about that.

John chuckled at that. "Leoben said Kara nearly killed him, too. I think he'll forgive you, though."

Pam laughed and shook her head. "I hope so.. I wasn't very nice to him during the birth," she admitted. She shifted the baby gently in her arms, then glanced over at him. "Did you want to hold her?"

John blinked at Pam for a moment, like he didn't understand what she was asking. only he did,a dn Leoben had offered the same, so it shouldn't have been that surprising.

Mostly, John was just a bit freaked about dropping the baby, or something. Even if he'd been perfectly fine holding Calliope. "Sure," he said.

Pam grinned brightly and waved him closer. "Meet your Uncle John, Samantha," she said softly, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead before carefully holding her out to him.

John took Samantha carefully, liking the sound of getting to be Uncle John twice over now. He'd had enough practice learning how to hold Calliope, though John was still silently freaking out about holding a baby no bigger than his P90.

"Hey, kiddo," he said quietly, grinning down at her, even if John was pretty sure she had no clue what was going on. "I think you're going to like it here."

Pam watched him intently, a little nervous having someone other than her or Jim holding the baby. She trusted John - with her life, really - but that didn't stop her from being nervous anyway.

"She has Jim's eyes," she pointed out, laughing softly when Samantha started to wave her tiny fists around.

"She kinda does," John said with a chuckle. he wasn't really all that crazy about babies, but sometimes he thought he could understand. "She's as pretty as her mom, too."

Pam blushed faintly and shrugged. Just as she was about to respond, Samantha open her eyes and started to cry.

"Oh. Oh boy. Here.. I can take her back," Pam offered, gesturing with both hands.

John was more than glad to hand Samantha back, crying babies being way beyond the scope of his talents. "Is she okay?"

Pam nodded, taking Samantha and rocking her gently.

"She might just be.. hungry or something," she murmured. "Jim's probably wandering around in a daze somewhere if you wanted to go talk to him.."

"I think I will," John said, getting up. Hungry babies meant more of Pam than he really was comfortable seeing. He leaned over the both of them first, giving Samantha a small goodbye wave even though her eyes were screwed up tight as she cried.

Pam looked tired and beat, but happy all the same, and John wasn't sure what to say. Something along the lines of how proud he was of her and Jim, and he'd always be there for them (and for babysitting duties), but it'd probably just come out all wrong. He leaned over and kissed Pam's forehead instead. "Get some rest, okay?"

Pam smiled tiredly up at him and nodded. "I'll try. And send Jim back in here when you're done with him," she requested.
