Took Chico back to the vet because he had run out of meds. Today, Chico is doing much better and even wiggled a little when he realized that he was going on a car ride. That dog loves car rides. So the entire way there he is with his head flopping outside the window.
We get there, and he gets down from the car no problem and even tried to run off in the parking lot! That is so diferent from last time. Luckily we had the same vet as last time and boy was she surprised. Seriously the look on her face was O_O. She told us in all honesty that she did not think he was going to make it through last week. That everday she expected to get a call from us telling them that he had passed away. As she examined him she kept doing little wow noises under her breath! It was funny to watch. Today he got up all by himself, he walked around, he was even following her around the exam room sniffing her, lol!
The good:
-He gained a pound. She would like it to be more but something is better than nothing.
-His white blood cell count is down from 75,000 to 50,000
-He's still a bit dehydrated, but she doesn't think hospitalization is required. Just to keep doing what we're doing.
-And of course that he's walking and is alert is a VERY good sign
The bad:
-He has a fever. Normal dogs are about 99-101 he was at 104. He didn't have this before.
-He's more animec now
-Cancer is still a possibiity but there is also a high probability of an infection. She won't discard cancer until he's romping and back to his usual self.
-He has an ear infection and ticks.
-He's developed sores for lying on the same side and on the floor
Treatments:
-Ear meds for the infection and the sores.
-More antibotics for the infection
-Frontline to rid him of fleas
-Vitamins to help with the anemia
-Pain killers for the pain
All in all, the vet looked hopeful this time when we left. Last time she had that look of doom on her face which scared the shit out of me. But turns out Chico is scrappy and isn't giving up without a fight. It was funny because the vet kept lingering in the room being all surprised. LOL! On the car ride home, Chico laid on my lap (which means he rested his head and front paws on my lap) and dozed.
We need to take him back again next week and then probably another week after that to see if we could take him off the meds. Let's hope he keeps getting better as quickly as he seems to be.
