A/N: Alright y'all its finally here. They actually meet. And talk. Which means I'm slowly getting to the end. Part 15 should be it for this little slice of life.
Monday morning. She was so not ready for this. Jason had taken her back home friday night without saying a word. She thought that was it. Not so lucky. He had called her all weekend trying to get her to change her mind. She had gotten so fed up with him she turned her cell phone off.
She hoped today was better. She didn't think it could get worse as she made her way to the faculty lounge. As the door opened to admit someone, she heard a laugh she never expected to hear again.
"Ah, Ms. Michaelchuk. Glad to see your finally going to introduce yourself to the rest of the faculty," said Raymond Krite as he came up behind Paige and put his hand on her back.
"Mr. Krite, I forgot and left some papers in my car. I'll be right back."
As she turned to leave Krite grabbed her arm.
"Nonsense Paige, and call me Ray. You can get them after you meet everyone else."
He opened the door and led Paige into the lounge.
"Everyone could I have your attention for a moment. I would like to introduce Paige Michaelchuk. She'll be filling in for Mr.Lamont over the next six weeks. I would be pleased if everyone would try and help her out if she needs it. Thank you."
Turning to Paige as he left the room.
"And if you need anything. Anything at all feel free to ask." Then he walked out the door.
Paige had barely noticed his exit though. Her eyes has been locked on Alex since she walked into this room.
Alex was a teacher. She was teaching at Degrassi. Someone had a very bad sense of humor.
"Hi, I'm Mark Hambly. I'm in the History department," he said as he held out his hand to Paige. He then locked back over his shoulder toward Alex. "And the dark haired brooding one back there is Alex Nunez. She's in History too."
And with that others came up and started introducing themselves. By the time Paige got free Alex was gone and the bell was ringing for first period.
The rest of the day went by fairly quickly. Paige didn't see Alex again that day or for the rest of the week. She figured Alex was avoiding her, which was alright since she didn't know what to say to her.
It was Tuesday of her second week. She was getting into the routine of things. And she was finding that she enjoyed being back at Degrassi. The only drawbacks were Raymond Krite and Alex. Alex was still avoiding her. They had yet to actually say anything to each other. And Raymond Krite seemed to know where she was every single second of the day. He was constantly asking her out. To be honest she thought he was creepy. And was getting close to making a harassment complaint against him.
And speak of the devil here he was.
"Hello Paige. How's your day going?" He said as he sat down at the table with her.
"Just fine Ray, No problems."
"Good, good, glad to hear it. So have you thought over my invitation."
"I have and I'm just really not up to dating right now."
"Hmm, That's not what I had heard. I was told you had been dating another substitute teacher."
"Your information's wrong Ray. We were just friends."
"I'm not so sure Paige. I mean he seemed to truly to think the two of you had been dating."
"Look Ray, I don't won't to go out with you," said Paige trying to keep from yelling at him.
A shadow fell over the table and they both looked up to see who it was.
Ray just smiled and Paige wondered if this day could get any better.
"Well Alex care to join us," said Ray as he motioned for Alex to sit down.
Leaning down toward the table and speaking only loud enough for Ray and Paige to hear.
"No thanks Ray. I just came over here to tell you to lay off. Paige has told you more than once No. And if you don't stop, I'll report you to the distract for harassment. So just leave her alone Ray."
"My aren't you protective. If I didn't know any better I'd say she was your girlfriend. But we all know that your last one just up and left you."
Alex had had enough and leaned in real close to Ray.
"You will stop Ray. I'm not joking. You will stay away from Paige, and you will stay away from me."
Turning to Paige, Alex noticed the glint in her eyes and the smirk she wore. Causing her stomach to do a couple of flips.
"Come on Paige grab your stuff I know a place where you can eat in peace."
Paige hurriedly gathered up her stuff and followed Alex out of the Faculty Lounge.
They walked in silence. Paige had no idea what to say. She had been surprised when she looked up and saw Alex. She had thought Alex was there to go at her. But when she started in on Krite, she had found herself smiling. Happy that Alex was coming to her rescue. And when she was told to to get her things and follow she didn't think twice about doing it. Now though following Alex down the hall she was scared. Wanting nothing more than Alex to say something. Anything.
Alex stopped at a classroom and opened the door, motioning Paige inside. After Paige stepped inside Alex shut the door and locked it.
"You can finish your lunch in here."
"Thank you Alex."
"Don't need to thank me Krite's an ass. And I just get tried of his shit sometimes."
"Still, thanks anyway," said Paige as she sat down at a desk to finish her lunch and grade some papers.

A/N: Still getting close to the end. i have taken liberties with the school system in Ontario. All mistakes belong to me. Unlike the characters.
Her weekend had been quite, She had dinner with Marco on Saturday. Marco had been kind enough not to bring Paige up. She had decided to stay away from the Paige think for a bit. Justin had meet them at the restaurant and she decided she liked him. He fit well with Marco.
On Sunday she had got a call from Jay wanting to know if she could meet him for a burger. he wasn't going to be in town long just passing through. It had been nice talking to Jay again. They didn't do that much any more. The construction work he did took him everywhere. So she caught him up on how her life was going.
"So Carly didn't have a problem with you meeting me tonight?"
"No. We're not together anymore."
"Shit Alex. I'm sorry."
"Don't be. We weren't in the same place."
"She get tired of sharing you with a memory."
"Jay don't."
"Look Alex, I care and you know it. You just have to let it go."
"She's here in Toronto."
"Who," looking in Alex's eye's he knew. "Paige she's here."
"Yeah, she divorced her husband and moved back."
"Is that why you and Carly?"
"No Carly left before I knew Paige was here."
"Have you seen her?"
"Yes."
Jay could see the pain floating in Alex's eye's.
"She tell you to get lost?"
"We never actually spoke to each other."
"Why Alex?"
"I don't think she wants to see me."
"I think your wrong."
"And I think your still an ass Jay."
"True, but I do know one thing. Paige loved you. And the kind of love she had for you just doesn't end."
Monday morning. God she wished she had called in. Jay had pissed her off last night but that hadn't stopped her from getting drunk with him. Now her head felt like shit. And to top it off she could hear Krites voice in the hallway.
She watched as the door opened and Krite ushered someone in. Her heart stopped beating and she stopped breathing as her mind registered who was standing in the faculty lounge. When her mind told her that she could breathe again. The first thing that popped into her head was "God she's still beautiful."
She didn't hear anything Krite said. But when Mark got up an introduced himself then pointed her out. She felt the need to leave. As the other faculty members introduced themselves to Paige, she slipped out the door.
Tuesday. She had managed to keep out of Paige's way for a week. It hadn't been easy not being seen by her. But manage she did. What she hadn't been able to ignore or dodge was Krite. It seemed like he made sure she could see him with Paige. She guessed he thought this would make her jealous. All it did was piss her off. She watched day after day Paige telling him no. Did the man never take a hint.
And here he was today. She watched him look around and see her before he entered the lounge. Shit, she knew Paige was in there and so did he. And without thinking she headed for the lounge.
She saw him talking to Paige, and the look on Paige's face made her see red. She didn't remember everything she had told Krite. Other than to leave the two of them alone. Then she had taken Paige out of there. Which is why they were now on their way to her classroom. What the hell had she been thinking. Shit. To late to change it now.
She turned once and looked at Paige. She still looked a little scared. She almost stopped to pull Paige into a hug. She stopped herself though. Those days were gone. She just wished things had been different.
She reached her class and opened the door for Paige.
"You can finish your lunch in here."
"Thank you Alex."
"Don't need to thank me, Krite's an ass. And I just get tried of his shit sometimes."
"Still thanks anyway,"said Paige as she sat down at a desk to finish her lunch and grade some papers.
Alex moved over to her desk and picked up the homework assignments that still needed grading. They worked this way for almost half an hour, when Alex looked up to see Paige moving around.
Paige walked over to Alex's desk with her stuff in her hands. She was nervous. Afraid anything she said to Alex would push her away.
"Alex, thank you again. I should get going, almost time for next period."
"Like I said no problem."
"Alex," started Paige then she stopped and took a deep breath."I'm sorry. I never meant."
"Paige stop. You have nothing to be sorry about."
"Yes, I do. I should have trusted your decisions. I just didn't want to give up all the control at the time."
"I could have handled telling you better."
"Do you hate me Alex."
"No Paige, I could never hate you."
They stared at each other afraid to move. To break the moment.
"Could we pretend things are good with us. That nothing bad every happened."
"That wouldn't be fair, would it Paige?"
"No, so then can we stop avoiding each other."
"Yeah,I think we can."
"Good cause I missed you."
Paige turned and walked out the door, while Alex sat at her desk staring in disbelieve.
