Money Matters

So I've reached a level of broke I've never before encountered. My bank account is nearly empty an my credit card is nearly maxed out. I'm not in credit card debt mind you, but the funds to pay the balance are not yet in my account. Do you realize how nerve racking that is?

Before I get into it I'd like to name some good things just to reassure people that I'm not becoming an embittered shrew.

- New Year's at Jennifer's was really fun, even if Patrick and I weren't half as slick as we thought we were
- Patrick gave me the best Christmas present ever: King's Quest VII. Hell's Yes, I've been waiting 10 years at least to play that game (I went through it in 2 sessions)
- I made a lasagna today. It was pretty tasty despite the noodles being slightly chewy
- Patrick's family might actually like me... maybe. Apparently they're willing to give us their sky miles for a trip to London to see Zanoni.

Ok ok, here goes,

The story:

Rent is due on the first of the month every month and you can't pay by credit/debit thus you cannot pay online. Fine fine. So every month, on the first of the month, I go to the grocery store and purchase a $740 money order. When December turned to January they still wanted their rent on the first of the month even though they obviously market to students and obviously students who don't live close by since they have to rent a freaking apartment. However, they, in all their generosity supposedly moved back the deadline to the 4th (I say supposedly because I was never notified) since the first was a public holiday and mail wasn't running on the 2nd due to the passing of #38. So I purchase a money order at the post office and pay for second day delivery and a Delivery Confirmation (apparently you can't purchase insurance on money, bastards). I think it should have gotten there the 3rd or 4th, but I look in my box today and there's this letter that my rent wasn't paid on time and I have a freaking $100 late fee. So I check my Delivery Confirmation online and all it says is that the post office accepted it in Waco on the 29th.... sweet.

Also, I'm looking online to see when the school is going to refund me my excess student loan money (which I basically live on all semester and should amount to $5k-ish) and it's only showing they owe me about $2800. WTF? I go back and look at my Financial Aid Letter and they're definitely supposed to give me a $2400 grant, which is showing up as zero dollars on my account balance... even sweeter

To make things a little more stressful I forgot to register early and I'm still waiting to find out if they're going to let me overload. I think I ought to have enough seniority by now, especially since I have to get into them to be able to graduate as planned in December.

I also have no money for books. Mom gave me $200 in my account to pay our electricity bill which is surprisingly low ($90)... sweet, maybe I can buy a whole book with what's leftover... and nothing else. I have no idea if they're just short on money or really thought I wouldn't need more than that. They don't always inform me of their financial situations.

Being dependent on others in any way, shape, or form for my livelihood blows. I'm looking forward to being financially independent I think, even if I have a $75K Bachelors to pay for then.
