after being fairly confident that tickets were sold out for Billy Corgan's First Solo Concert Ever, i gave up hope that I would go. Tickets went on sale 4/10 while i was working. when i checked when i was home... no tickets available. the concert was to be held on monday 4/19 ... so just to humour myself i checked for tickets again yesturday at about 4:45PM. as you may have guessed, i found tickets. i called Rachel up and hit the order button and by 5:10PM we were on our way to the Metro in Chicago...
...7:30 PM Cental Standard Time found us in line around the block from the Metro. the place was packed and we were stuck close to the back. the view sucked.
the stage was lit by 4 wide spotlights and some old fashioned hanging lamps. there was a big red cusioned chair with a music stand in front of it and microphones all over the place.
...8:30 PM billy finally came out. he sat down in his red chair and he was hard to see over people's heads. it was just him and his accoustic guitar and some great songs. they even handed out programs as you walked in with all the lyrics to the songs. his guitar was very quiet, and his mic was only a little higher in volume. the only concert i ever left without my ears ringing. the songs were a mixture of new tunes and some leftover from djalizwan.
overall, the show was excellent and the audience was the usual obnoxious chicago crowd.
3:40 AM eastern standard time - i returned home and fell asleep in like 2 seconds.
2 tickets to billy corgan's concert in chicago - $90
gas for rachel's car - $35
2 pirated pumpkin shirts outside the venue - $10
Seeing Billy Corgan perform his first solo concert ever - priceless
the show was recorded (both audio and video) for release on a live DVD in the fall.
his poetry book should come out in the same time frame
his other "alternative rock" album should be coming out at the end of the year as well
other important notes!!!!!!!!:
jimmy chamberlin was in attendence at the concert. billy said that jimmy is going to record a solo album and that someday they would play together again. WORD!
quote of the night: some guy yells to billy, "PLUG IN!" and billy quickly replies: "wasn't it enough that I plugged into you last night? some people can't be satisfied..."
