Things don't always go as planned. Not that you can plan a relationship. But my concentration period is over and I feel the on-coming feminism. I hate this feeling but at the same time welcome it for a change. I am still very in love with this guy who we like to call "boyfriend" but I also feel a strong need to become an independent woman as soon as possible.
I heard about the author, Octavia Butler, through my liberal studies class. I've only read 4 1/2 chapters into her novel, Parable of the Sower, yet I already know that I will read every novel that this woman has ever written. She is a 57-year-old who has been writing on the "what if's" of the future since the mid-80's. It's quite intriguing, especially for those who don't practice an 'official' religion. The best part is that it's told through a young African American girl's point of view (which explodes the idea that predominantly only young white males read science fiction). Some critics call it Dystopian sci-fi (as opposed to Utopian); Butler calls her writing "the sci-fi of hope".
Maybe I'm just searching for inspiration or something cheesy like that.
