the one thing about dc which no one told me is that the broadcast tv here  is really  entertaining.  all the countries and organizations with agenda are on the airwave here. so we have two cctv channels, one devoted to the lavish documentaries about esoteric topics like the lost cities of Kuchi and Qun Opera, all subbed in servicable english. also

NHK 1 and 2, oh how that takes me back... Do they still play the national anthem over a picture of the spinning globe at sign-off time, while a nice lady tells you to be careful of fires? or are you even awake at sign-off time these days?
