noodling

I'm taking a course on folklore and folklife this semester, and we just read a story about noodling. The more you read about the not-so-common things that people do, the more you see where Chuck gets his inspiration. Basically, these people fish for catfish by shoving their arms into holes and hoping that a catfish will bite them.
"Lee would reach into likely nooks and crevices, wiggling his fingers and waiting for a nip. When it came, he would hook his thumbs into the attacker's mouth or thrust his hand down its throat, then wait for the thrashing to stop. If he was lucky, the thing on the end of his arm was a fish."
Picturing people up to their elbows or shoulders in dangerous holes for fun reminded me of Rant.
