Mirror Mirror, Character Advice

So I had a great time at Mirror Mirror. Liu, my character, was originally a PC in a one on one fantasy game which never concluded, and then progressed onwards to become a key “NPC” in my Dreadfall campaign, which had a number of characters I created with deep backgrounds and histories. I enjoyed playing Liu originally, so it was nice to be able ( Read more... )

First, Skirmisher has a couple "get back home" skills, which may help - but an extra armor and extra vitality are never bad. Frankly, nobody knows what your specialties are, so you never need to call yourself a Champion, or RP like a tank, or whatever. Seriously, Fox is a Bruiser. See him standing in a line with a board?

As for the rest, honestly, practice a lot and see where you stand in a month and see how it goes - otherwise, you really need the character skills as a stopgap. Heck, even with a lot of practice and weapon skills, they'll help.

Also, accept the possibility of death the moment you take one of those flanking runs. ;)

On Skirmisher, this is true, and I'm giving it some consideration. I had no idea Fox was a bruiser though. :-)

I'll be fighting two weapon at Endgame now, so I hope to be gaining more experience in that style and improving. Really, I also need to be doing some cardio, but school is sadly leaving me with a lot less time and energy for such things then work, so its not going to be easy.

As for the death part - Yes, but I dont want to make a habit of it, and am trying to plan my build ahead of time to minimize the risk.

Thus proving my point there pretty well. ;)

I suppose that at Madrigal, any time you're out thugging, you should be doing it with two long weapons, too. It's more practice!

I do more often then not at Madrigal, but it's very different on the NPC side.

Be a Skirmisher and join the Carnival of the Shiv! Whee!

On a more serious note Skirmisher is indeed a great way to feel a little safer out behind the lines. I forgot if you told me what Mastery you have but maxed out Guile Mastery with all the Defensive skills really helps survivability in some respects. One big downside is the lower vitality and armor compared to War Mastery. No build will ensure survivability in the back lines though.

I have Mastery of Guile 4 and all defensive skills and 3/3 Vitality/Armor.

The tradeoff at the moment is;

Champion gives;
+1 Vitality
+1 Armor
+1 Devensive Skill (Parry vs. anything)

vs. Skirmisher which gives;
3x event disengage
1x per battle fall stable
Shiv
Wouldn't take backstab, most likely.

So switching to Skirmisher gives more damage output when flanking, avoiding bleedout once (though Monk has an increase to two minutes also), but looses two total vitality and a Parry vs. Anything.

So the question there becomes, is Shiv, a few extra disengages, and no bleedout worth better at keeping me alive then the two extra vitality and the parry vs. all.

With my particular fighting style, and how I run around like mad, I prefer the Skirmisher skills. Because I am frequently deep in the back lines I am betting that at some point I will be cut down where nobody will be able to reach me in a minute or even two minutes. Heck, I could easily be cut down where nobody sees me at all. Between the Thick Blood skill saving my bacon there I really do like the other skills in Skirmisher, especially Shiv. That being said the extra hits and Parry vs anything is pretty sweet. The times I was cut down was due to a crunchy cutting me down with uncalled or 2 Damages and the few extra hits would definitely make a difference.

I think it boils down to either wanting more damage and not bleeding out once per battle or having more defenses and HP. That is something for you to decide but from what you are saying it sounds like you maybe want the extra cushion so you don't have to worry as much about bleeding out somewhere in the back.

Yeah, I actually didn't end up using many of my called defenses because most of what hit me was uncalled. On that note though, the ability to soak two uncalled flurries and stay on my feet defenitely got me out of hot water a few times.

Sounds like you are a prime candidate for more armor and vitality. :-)

Yeah, and I don't want to go Mastery of War because I defenitely am enjoying not having to deal with armor props when it's hot out (even though my full costume does included armor as purely a costume element), and the abilities in Guile suit the character more.
