Oh, she was calling. Rikku lifted her head just as Yuna and Paine turned to face her. The three shared a look and it was apparent that they all understood. It was never a fieldtrip when they had to report back to Maleficent, especially when there was absolutely nothing to say. Lately there hadn’t been any activity with Leon and his crew, so what were they supposed to do? Maleficent promised them treasure if they completed their secret mission, but that was starting to become a much more difficult task to accomplish then that had originally assumed. Coming back with no news just wasn’t an option for them, and as much as Rikku liked to boast their oh-so-fearless nature, Maleficent was certainly the exception to their courage.
“Yunie, I’ll go first! I can find out if she’s gonna be really mad then come back.” It sounded noble enough, but the other two could most definitely see past this show of bravery. Wringing her hands together was probably what gave it away, now that she thought about it. Before the pair could open their mouths, though, Rikku vanished in a swirl of yellow and orange. They may have known she was nervous, but they would never insult her and refuse her order.
Oh, wait, Paine would. Drat.
All of that seemed to lose its importance the moment she materialized again. Green eyes blinked once, twice, then a third time just to make sure she registered everything correctly. This wasn’t the dark and creepy castle of Maleficent. In fact, it was more the complete opposite, wasn’t it? What a strange place this was. Rikku hung in the air for a moment longer, surveying the area for anything alive when a voice, soft and somewhat cheerful, said, “welcome to Paixao.” The small fairy spun around, floating back a few spaces before getting a good look at her greeter. She opened her mouth to question the genuity of such a welcome, but the mysterious person interrupted with the giving of a weird device.
It was probably the same size she was, and at first Rikku wasn’t sure what to do with it. The person offered it again, holding it out further for her to take. Well, what was treasure was still treasure no matter how weird it looked. Rikku accepted the gift, arms wrapping around as much of it as she could before she was ushered away. “Hey, but I still- Wait, I’m not- Come on, listen to me!”
Well, there was no point arguing after that...
