Sometimes, your own compass didn't work quite right. It broke, or skewed, or got lost, or just twirled around aimlessly. That was why you needed other people around, comrades you could trust, respect, and rely on to steer you back onto the right course. One man, alone, was lost and pathetic--two or three, or more, was an intrepid band of explorers and adventurers, not lost, but searching and discovering. That held true for both the physical and moral compass, Sword was starting to believe; his encounter with that cat--beast--monster--person--thing had thrown him off and shaken him more than he cared to admit.  It had been a tremendous creature, he knew that much. One with an incredible size and no doubt very powerful muscles, with fangs and claws designed to rend flesh with ease. It had felt of darkness and had a menacing air around it, it had been arrogant and terrible to see.....

And yet, it had not attacked him. Not directly, not physically. It could easily have torn him asunder, if his armor and sword weren't enough. But it had not. It had spoken with him, tried to reason with him, while he stood ready to attack. He had been the one willing, waiting, eager to shed blood.... a self-proclaimed protector and defendant, when a monster had been civil enough to remain reliant on words alone. It had turned its back and left him. Had he done the right thing? Would he have done the same thing if his companions were there to back him? Just who of the two of them had really been the monster?

It was a discouraging thought, that he might be slipping back into old habits, that he could potentially regress into desperate, ruthless bandit he once had been, focused on nothing but his and Blade's own survival. That was probably why he'd wandered about and sat in contemplation for so long. Who could help feeling restless after that? At least he had resolved to take some action, however small. Finding himself in front of a pawn shop, he'd decided to go in and inquire as to whether the owner had seen any signs of Blade or Meta. After all, people in this business tended to be well-connected, weren't they? And he couldn't stay alone; he knew that he needed his friends' guidance and support to be the knight he ought to be. With luck, he would find some lead here; the little knight pushed open the Glass Bonsai's door, resolutely heading straight for the counter.

the glass bonsai, sir sword knight, djinni
