Normally Remy rose with the sun. Today, however, he found the sun already high in the sky as he woke up. To make matters worse, he was laying outside on the ground, which he was sure hadn't been the case when he had first gone to sleep. The rat's first reaction was to crouch down low to the ground and make himself as invisible as possible. One never knew what might happen to a rat caught out in the open in the middle of... where, exactly?

It certainly wasn't Paris. Paris didn't have any huge domed structures looming as far as the eye could see. One thing that was familiar was the line of people waiting to get into the place. Remy had seen lots of lines before, usually of people waiting to get into the restaurant, although he couldn't ever recall seeing THAT many people lined up to eat before!

One thing he knew about crowds, though... They could be a problem, especially for a rat. Unfortunately, the large gate they were filing through seemed to be the only way in to the domed structure. The rat scratched his chin as he considered whether or not he even wanted to see what was inside, but curiosity was getting the better of him. Anyway, there wasn't anything of real note on his side of the gate, including good cover, so he doubted that he wanted to stick around outside very long. The best thing to do would be just to sneak past the people and hurry inside before someone noticed him.

He sidled up to the edge of the domes and crept towards the line, slipping around behind the table where it appeared that people were checking in. He had almost gotten close enough to make a quick dash through into the odd-looking city beyond when he heard a voice from behind him. "Hey, what are you doing on this side of the table?" Normally, he would have ignored what seemed to be conversation between the humans, but as he continued on, the question was followed up by a more emphatic demand that was quite obviously aimed towards him, "Hey, rat! You have to give your name and take a journal before you go into the city!"

This particular statement brought him up short. While he was used to people screeching things like "IT'S A RAT!! KILL IT!!" upon sight of him, he had never had someone stop him to ask for personal information. This was a new experience... and actually kind of flattering in a way. Of course, he wasn't sure how the guy expected him to give his name. It wasn't as if humans could understand him. If they could, his life before now would have been a whole lot easier! Still, he was amused enough by the request to go along with it. "Yeah, sure!" he called up to the blond-haired man who was now watching him intently. "Want to play Charades until you can figure it out?"

"Why would I want to do that?" The man asked, causing the rat to jerk back in surprise. "Just tell me your name already and take a journal."

Remy blinked as his contemplations on how to give his name through gesturing were completely derailed by this person's apparent ability to understand every word he was saying. He opened and shut his mouth twice before he finally managed to get any words out. "Remy... I'm Remy..."

"All right, then," The human said, turning for a moment to write the information down. A moment later, he turned back and reached towards the rat with a small object in his hands. At least, the object was small to the human. To Remy, it looked unfortunately bulky. "Here, this is your journal, though I don't know how you're going to carry it around. Maybe you can take one of the carry cords and make it into some kind of harness..." The man deposited both the journal and a length of cord on the ground, while Remy just looked on in disbelief.

He didn't do anything for a moment, staring up at the human as the other watched him expectantly. Then, deciding that this was just too plain strange to be a joke, Remy reached over and picked up the journal, finding that it was at least lightweight. It certainly wasn't quite as bad as some of the things he'd lugged around over the previous months. The rat wound the carry cord around the "journal", deciding to check out both items a little better at some point in the future. Right now he just wanted to find a safe, secluded spot to sit down and try to figure out what the heck was going on!

"Er... Thanks," he said, as he hefted the gifts and started through the gateway. This was turning out to be a very, very strange day...
