They called him a great many things, some of them pretty, most words of condemnation. Morning Star, Great Serpent, Traitor, First of the Fallen, Incarnation of Evil, Destroyer of Worlds. Before his fall, he had been worshipped, and afterwards feared - but there hadn't been a time when people had not looked at him with awe, as if facing something far away out of the world and utterly unattainable.

The man who now sat on a rooftop and watched the mechanical sun set could not have said himself whether that was because he'd always been so or whether he'd really just played along. Either way, the result was the same: that he was unreachable, touched by nothing in this world except for one - or so he thought; beings thought to be eternal changed only slowly and laborously, and so he still had a lot to learn about feelings. But this one, he had never doubted belonging to; he'd felt tied to her since their first meeting in that poisonous Garden and since then desperately sought to be close to her. Thus, it was no wonder he found himself in this place with its fake life and fake sun.

Mechanical sun. So oddly reminiscent of home; wasn't that what Adam Kadamon had said, at the end? The flawedness of everything tore all sense from the very concept of their universe. That had brought him no small of satisfaction; he had been right - they had been right. Her and him, always so very the same. He was getting impatient and had often pondered seeking her out, but as going back on his promise to give her freedom was the last thing he would do, he'd complied with her wish to be left alone.

In the meantime, he had been investigating, particularly with the goal to find a way out. This place and its whole appearance of being... orchestrated grated on his nerves. Escaped one cage only to be trapped in another. What sat with him even less well was the fact that he'd been pulled here entirely without his consent or even consciousness of such a process until it was too late. Well. He supposed he could have flown off the island before entering the damned City, but there'd been Alexiel's aura. Still, he suspected that something or someone what behind this, and deep down, it frightened him a little (really, only a little) that there was still a power in this world he had priorly known absolutely nothing of.

So the Lord of Demons sat atop a roof and pondered.
