beginning to hate capitalism

Do retail establishments have it out for me or what?  Recall a few weeks ago when New York and Co. double charged me?  They sent my check through both as a paper check and an electronic one.  Then I spent 20 minutes on the phone being transferred to three different people and repeating my account number, name, social, address, and story three times just to get them to send me a form to fill out to claim a refund.  Three weeks later and I *just* got the credit to my account last night.

Which, coincidentally, is the same night that Fredericks of Hollywood decided to charge us $79.99 for no apparent reason.  Wade ordered some little nightie for me last Thursday without telling me (as a xmas present) but then confessed when I got home from Baltimore and said how much I spent and how much we had left in our checking account.  I found out that he paid $13 for shipping and I was not happy, plus the item was not on sale.  And, even though I'd pointed out the particular thing in the catalog, he got the wrong size and color.  He called them back to cancel the order but only six hours later they said it had already shipped.

So last night, I noticed when looking online at my checking account that they charged us $49.77 for the item and 2nd day shipping, then they charged us $7.95 and also $79.99.  WTF???  The invoice on the item (which I received yesterday) was $49.77 and had the cost of the merchandise, tax, and the $12.95 shipping.  I was baffled.  Wade called their customer service today and the woman said the $79.99 was for some frequent buyer's club program which Wade said he never agreed to.  She said that she would remove the charge for that, but not the $7.95 because that was shipping, even though our invoice clearly says $12.95 was for shipping.  So it cost $21 to ship something that was $34?  That is ridiculous!  He called back and talked to someone else but they only offered him 10% on our next purchase, which will clearly happen when hell freezes over.

I emailed a nasty letter to their customer service.  They still have not removed the $79.99 charge, which in my book, is fraud.  I filled out a report with the Better Business Bureau.  Then Wade had to call our bank because when that charge came through, so did another to Wal-Mart and that put us in the red.  We want to make sure that we don't get charged a $40 overdraft fee.   Of course, we get paid tomorrow.  There is money in our Indiana checking account, but by the time we transferred it over, we would have our paychecks.

I am just so angry!   First at Wade because this gift was over the limit he was given to buy for me anyway and he is trying to kiss my ass because he flunked his class.  Secondly at retail in general.  I love to shop, but I hate to feel taken advantage of.  I am not sure what makes FOH think they can just enroll people in this club and charge their cards $79.99 with no authorization.  Wade said he remembers declining the offer when he was on the phone with him.

So...I'm going to work out my aggression with weights and the bike later but I just spent 2 hours in my kitchen icing Christmas cookies and then cleaning up the mess.  Made dinner in there somewhere too.   I am just ready for 2009 to get here.  Dreading  Christmas Eve and Christmas night alone with the kids, dreading the drive to Indiana, dreading seeing my mother-in-law.  I don't think I have ever been this negative about Christmas in my life :(
