Japanese Tea Garden

Here are some pics from Sunday's visit to the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

A Japanese lantern near the entrance.

A jewel-like quince blossom.

The ginkgos are ablaze with autumn color.

Their fallen leaves glow on the grass and form golden mats floating on the ponds.

Another one of the many lanterns throughout the garden.

A hooded merganser.

Japanese maple leaves afloat on a pond.

A mallard hen pauses in her grooming.

Traditional Japanese lanterns have five sections: pedestal, base, light box, roof, and finial.

A view of a pagoda.

Sap oozing from a pine tree trunk catches the late autumn sun.

More Japanese maple foliage.

A cherry leaf catches the slanting rays of the late afternoon sun.
