Saying May has been busy is a bit of an understatement, so let's skim over the important stuff because I still need to write a comic con post.
1. I FUCKING GRADUATED FROM GRAD SCHOOL. I kept holding off announcing this to the wider world, because I keep thinking they're going to take it away from me at any moment. And then I got an email of what my diploma is going to look like (name not quite right of course: Kali Van nimwegen) and figured that made it pretty official. I now have a Masters in Library Science. YAYAYAYAYAYAY. (now to find a job)
2. Julie also graduated from grad school! To commemorate us both getting this shit DONE, we got tattoos. Mine says "ride, boldly ride" which is a line from this
Edgar Allen Poe poem. I promised I would trying to stop explain this to people in real life, so I'm writing it here and that will be that.
One of the movies my family watched a bunch growing up was called "El Dorado." It was a John Wayne western and actually one of three movies made in the same time period, with the same plot and different actors (well Wayne was in at least two of them). In it there is a character called Mississippi, because no one can remember his real name. (i can relate) He fights with knives rather than guns, tends to get himself in trouble, but also has rather creative ways of getting out of it. And he recites this poem whenever he feels like it. Oh and he has a weird hat. I liked him. I liked the poem and the idea that someone would ride through the desert reciting it. I liked that we meet him at what ought to be the end of his story - he is avenging a death and finishes his vengeance when we first meet him. The whole movie feels like you've walked into these people's lives, stayed a while, and then wandered out and westerns don't usually do that very well. More so than just the movie, I loved the fact that my whole family would watch it. It was one of those that would come on to TCM or AMC all the time and gradually everyone would gather in the living room, or come out for their favorite parts. I never met anyone outside my family who knew it or cared about it and it became an in joke for us. And i loved the poem. I loved the questing, the image of the knight searching for something, the imagery of "the mountains of the moon and the valley of he shadow", and I loved the sentiment of "ride, boldly ride" because I am a shy person and often timid and quiet and I need to remember that I don't have to be. And that I can continue going forward and I must if I want to find my el dorado - which is a children's library. So yeah. long explanation. But before I'm going to get something painfully etched into my back (and yeah, that did hurt) it better remind me of things i love in life, like my family, and childhood memories, and stories and characters that I loved, and my path forward. Oh and horses.

3. Before I start geeking out about comic con, let's do some pre geeking.
a. I saw Avengers. Thrice. Once with Julie before staying up all night with honey whiskey and a fairly futile attempt to look at stars in the desert. (Not only do we suck at finding accessible desert, it was the night of the brightest full moon of the yeah. go us.) Saw it with Wilson, Dennis, and Sierra and then saw it in 3D with Aimee. I was curious about the 3D and it worked surprisingly well, normally I don't care for it though I deffo seeing the hobbit in 3D. Anyway, LOVED IT. Really really want to know backstory on Natasha and Clint (what happened in budapest??). I adore Ruffalo as the Hulk, he played that careful balance perfectly. I especially loved the interaction between Stark and Banner - Stark literally prodding both to see what he'll do and to prove he's not afraid of him, that he gets it and that Bruce isn't the only monster here. And it pays off - the Hulk saves him and now they're off being Science Bros. (btw anyone else think Captain America looked EXACTLY like Steve McQueen on that bike. good lord I need to watch the great escape again.) Anyway, I've hashed this all out in real life hundreds of times, so I'll end with SHWARMA.
b. I've been finally watching Supernatural. Julie tends to get me to watch shows by getting me interested in a character - at least that's how she got me to watch Angel (oh Wesley.) I finally gave into spn, not because she wouldn't shut up about dean, but because she introduced me to the amazingly weird and special misha collins. And he doesn't even turn up in the show for 3 seasons. I'm in season 6 now and the show is awesome (sam's car is dead! nice aim cas!) and with most of our group now fluent in supernatural, we decided to do a group cosplay to comic con...
