Two in one day! Two in one question! Anyway. Madame Vastra and Jenny. For all of you going “who?” They’re in Doctor Who - but not much. Madam Vastra is a Silurian detective in Victorian England and Jenny appears to be her maid…until you see her next wielding a samurai sword. They are also lovers and according to youtube comments, Moffat thought that a spinoff with them would be like Tipping the Velvet with a lizard. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to know more about two characters from so little provided before, and I’m not alone in this, based on the amount of fanfic around. (And yes, I know this is two, but you can’t really separate them!) They appear as fully fledged characters - we as the audience only catching a glimpse into their lives when they turn up to help the Doctor at the Battle for Demon’s Run. Moffat has a tendency to bring people back, so HOPEFULLY, we will see them again.

Speaking of the Moff - he is exceptionally good at creating characters that are or seem to be one-offs. I could just as easily have put Sally Sparrow or Madame DuPompadour in this spot - both are amazing characters in their own right. For that matter, Irene Adler deserves an honourable mention as well. Good lord, that woman knows how to make an impression. One non-Moff character that I’d lovelovelove to see again in DW is the other Jenny, the Doctor’s Daughter (it is thanks to Moffat that she’s still alive) though I understand that Georgia Moffet is off having…the Doctor’s daughter (I had to.)
