30 Days of Women - Day One
Got this meme from Megs, aka dqbunny and love the idea, but oh this is going to be HARD. Ok, here goes:
Day One: Favorite lead female character - Emma Peel
This was VERY VERY HARD. At the end I'll put a list of runner's up that is by no means complete, particularly, because I'm very bad at choosing favorites and thinking of people on the spot. But Emma Peel is so frickin awesome, that I feel it needs to be her. I grew up watching the Avengers (in case anyone is wondering when my obsession with offbeat British shows started, it was EARLY) In a show made in the 60s, Emma is not a sidekick, but rather the respected equal of John Steed. They work as a team and she rescues him and fights alongside him just as he does for her. She fences, fights, makes snarky remarks, and interrogates a man trapped between her feet while drying her hair (multitasking at its finest). She is also an artist, a scientist, and a damn sexy woman. Steed only calls her "Emma" once in the entire show - on her last episode. They are partners, but it never becomes sexual, it doesn't need to. She is her own woman and never lets anyone forget it. I also just noticed that I have her as my default icon. Yes, there's a reason for that.
