This morning I got all upset because in a phone conversation yesterday my grandmother was confused and unable to understand what I was saying. I was telling Steve about it and he said matter-of-factly "She needs a blood test to check her sodium."
"But no Steve, you don't understand, she was all confused and it was so sad..."
"She's just been started on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and lack of sodium can create confusion in the elderly. She needs a blood test."
So he got on the phone, told Dad, and that was that. Lack of sodium might not be the problem, but it made me feel so much better that there was a possible explanation. His 13 years of study are finally paying off in my book....
