[multichapter] space wonderland; chapters 22, 23 (Final)

May 02, 2013 10:20

And finally THE END. I'm glad I could write this, I really am. In November I was struggling to reach the word count and at the same time keep writing a nice story, and it was HARD, but editing it to post it here was the worst part XD; I'm sorry if it took so log and if it's still messy. I'd definitely plan more before writing a multichapter again, but I hope you enjoyed it. I wanted to write more in these two chapters, especially chapter 22, but in the end I didn't because... I don't know. There are many things that I still want to write in this AU. I want to write more about the others too. Obviously the story here focuses on Fujigaya, but I really want to write extras for the others.

Chapter 22

Time passed as it had always done, among happy and sad moments, among the nostalgic feelings that just a look at the stars could give. Fujigaya adapted to the circus life quickly as he did the first time. He could skate better than before and he was always shining during the shows.

Sometimes it really seemed like the old Fujigaya was back, with his remarks and whimsical behaviour. The sound of his laughter was the same, his personality unchanged. He grew fond of many people, but somehow it wasn’t the same thing with Yokoo.

Yokoo kept the distance, maybe because he was still too much in love with the other Fujigaya. He noticed that Fujigaya was leaning more and more towards other people, and he didn’t do much to stop it. He didn’t do anything when he saw him fooling around with Nikaido, the poor guy trapped by that passion that Fujigaya sometimes displayed, and he didn’t do anything when he started to think he had feelings for Kitayama.

One day he was on the observation deck, and Kitayama came in.

“Aren’t you going to do anything for this situation?” he asked, frowning at Yokoo.

“What are you talking about?”

“Fujigaya.”

“What’s wrong with him?”

“Nothing’s wrong with him. I think there’s something wrong with you.”

“Why?”

“You’re not holding him. You’re not showing him your feelings.”

“I guess he likes other people better than me this time.”

“What are you talking about? Aren’t you jealous?”

“I have no right to stop him,” Yokoo shrugged.

“You should stop him! Why do you think he goes playing around so much?”

“I don’t know, I guess it’s the way he is?”

“How can you be so stupid? You don’t care if tonight he comes to my room?” Kitayama said, defiant attitude glimmering in the aura around him.

“It’s his choice, not mine.”

“You really are stupid.”

“I’d rather you stop calling me stupid, little man,” Yokoo said, teasing him, but feeling rather angry inside.

“I guess he doesn’t have much choice, since you don’t want him.”

Kitayama walked away leaving Yokoo frowning there. What did that mean?

That evening he watched Kitayama getting closer to Fujigaya. Whispering things in his ear, smiling together. He repeated to himself that it was Fujigaya’s choice. He couldn’t force Fujigaya to love him, he couldn’t force his feeling on him. Then, after Kitayama and Fujigaya had walked away from the canteen, maybe to go to Kitayama’s room, Yokoo remembered what he had promised to Fujigaya.

He wasn’t sure what game Kitayama was playing and if he was following the rules, but he felt like he must regain his position. He stormed out of the room and walked in the direction of Kitayama’s room. He knocked on the door and it seemed like hours passed before Kitayama opened it. He wasn’t wearing a shirt. Yokoo frowned, but then he sucked it up and started talking.

“I told him I will remember for us both, but I’m remembering just by myself here. You were right, I’m stupid. I really am. And maybe now it’s too late, because I didn’t remind him that the person he loved was me, but...”

“What the hell are you talking about? Too late?”

“Aren’t you in a relationship already?”

“There’s nothing so serious between us,” Kitayama smirked. “He’s head over heels for you, you fucker!” Kitayama said, laughing and pushing Yokoo away from the door frame.

“What?”

“He likes you, I guess some things never change.”

“Let me in.”

“He’s not here, idiot. I was about to go to sleep. Now scram please, I’m busy,” Kitayama closed the door and Yokoo heard a laugh, a voice that sounded just like Totsuka’s.

He didn’t have time to ask himself questions about what the hell was happening in that spaceship and why they all seemed to like going in other people’s rooms so much. He dashed through the corridors and reached his room, the one he still shared with Fujigaya.

Fujigaya was sitting on the bed and he was looking at a picture. Yokoo came closer and took a look. It was a photo they took once, during a picnic in a planet full of cherry blossoms. A messy picture taken by Yokoo stretching his arm to hold the camera and one could barely see their faces, cut in a weird angle.

“Where did you find that?”

“It fell from your cabinet some time ago.”

“It was a nice picnic that time.”

“I can see it from our smiles. So this was me,” Fujigaya smiled bitterly.

“You are still you, Taisuke.”

“I’m smiling so happily. You too, I’ve never seen you smiling like this. You always have a shadow before your smile.”

“I’m sorry Taisuke.”

“I must have really loved you. And you loved me so much. I feel terrible not being able to remember. But one thing I know,” Fujigaya paused and looked into Yokoo’s eyes. “I don’t know if it’s the same love, but what I feel now for you, is definitely love.”

Yokoo sighed then hugged him.

“Why do you always beat me and say this before I do? How do you understand things faster?”

Fujigaya was surprised, but then relaxed in the hug. “You’re just useless when it comes to feelings.”

“Taisuke, I love you. I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you before. I didn’t want to force my feelings on you because you didn’t remember. Even if I had promised you I would remember for us both.”

“I guess you didn’t force anything. I never had much choice but to fall in love with you again.”

Fujigaya smiled, his lips pressed on Yokoo’s shoulder. Yokoo felt his warm breath through his thin clothes and a shiver ran down his spine. How could he have forgotten happiness was so easy to achieve?

Chapter 23

They spent the rest of the year remembering Fujigaya. It wasn’t like he had to remember, he couldn’t possibly do it, but everyone did their best to share the memories they had of him with him. They told Fujigaya about his previous self, about what had happen, about how he would forget again. Fujigaya said that he didn’t want to forget. That he would fight not to, but Yokoo convinced him that he didn’t need to. Maybe there was nothing to do, but he promised he would take care of him forever, that he would tell him about who he was over and over, every single time.

In the meantime, the war against the machines had started. They found out the machines had planted controlling chips in many other machines that people had bought illegally from Kyorkham. Weapons and dangerous robots were all over the universe, so the war became every day more intense.

Somebody was sent to the planet and make people conscious of their situation. After a while, people from Kyorkham started rebelling against the machines and with their help, the planets Assembly conquered the hostile planet. Unfortunately the machines had spread their controlling web all over the universe, so the war continued, with terroristic attacks from Kyorkham’s controlled robots in unexpected places.

Scientists were studying a way to solve the problem of Kyorkham people. Destroying the memory biochip was impossible without killing the host. Fuma and Kento decided to join in the research and left the circus for a while. They went back to the unnamed planet and started studying the Krivs in order to use the waves they could send to the human brain as a solution. They also studied the way the Krivs attached to new organisms and controlled them. They asked the Krivs to cooperate and they did. Kindness was something universally appreciated, from all the life forms. They tried to use the Krivs on Kyorkham voluntaries, and they were partially successful, since some of them managed to remember parts of their previous life. If a Kriv was able to understand how the biochip worked during the reset time, they would probably be able to annihilate its control.

They went back to the circus right before Fujigaya’s reset, with their trained Krivs to help him, hoping they could stop the amnesia. The results hadn’t been completely satisfying so far, but the Krivs were starting to understand and partially stop the biochip during reset. They just needed more practice on how to stop at the right moment and destroy the connection with the brain.

Basically the Krivs didn’t work on the biochip itself, but on the brain of the person, that acted like it hadn’t received any impulse from the biochip. The luckiest people managed to remember at least their last six month of life. The biochip was still in their brain, but with the help of the Krivs it could be stopped if there was another attempt at reset.

Fuuma gave Fujigaya a bracelet containing the Krivs, telling him to wear it all the time and that the creatures would monitor his brain and know when to act. “Just remember to be gentle with them, they don’t need food, only a bit of water sometimes.” Fujigaya looked at the bracelet and was pleased to find out that the Krivs looked like clear crystal stones. The Krivs could change form depending on the organism they were taking over, so those stones must have been made of organic matter. Fujigaya didn’t remember what the Krivs looked like before, but the others told him that he certainly wouldn’t have liked to wear them. “We worked on their look a bit. That organic sponge can crystallize easily if it reaches certain temperatures and still remain alive to host the Krivs. Pretty, isn’t it? Looks like diamonds.” Kento said twisting the bracelet in his hand so that the stones were deflecting the light and form rainbows patches on the surfaces of the spaceship.

The entire universe observed the development with anxiety. The circus waited and waited, checked every day for news, but nothing was in sight. Until the time of the reset arrived again.

Tears that were already shed, hugs that had been already given, words that were old and sounded useless, all was done again. Fujigaya knew it was useless to resist, he still wished to fight, but the others convinced him to just relaxed and enjoy the last moments.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t remember all of you, I’m sorry that I will forget again. But I’m grateful for what I know you will do for the new me. Please bear with me, I think I will have the same kind of personality once again.”

“Oh my, why doesn’t your personality resets as well?” Kitayama complained, smirking as Fujigaya narrowed his eyes.

When the time arrived and Fujigaya fell asleep quietly. Yokoo smiled as he kissed his lips and whispered goodbye. Once again, goodbye.

--

The sun always shone on Gyuran. Dawn was beautifully tinted of pink and the waves twirling on the foreshore played a nice, calming melody. A light breeze rustled gently among the palm leaves as Yokoo walked on the sand. He could feel it was still cold under his feet because the night had just disappeared. He moved slowly in the morning light, leaving small traces behind him.

The breeze was ruffling his hair as he looked at horizon, and the rays of the new day blinded him. He turned around to look at the spaceship and saw a figure walking towards him, yet the blurs left by the sunlight didn’t allow him to see who that was.

Maybe Fujigaya had woken up and they wanted to tell him. Yokoo stopped for a moment, thinking that his work was about to start all over again. Remembering for him, remembering for him for the second time, remembering both of the people he had been. Maybe this time the Krivs helped him, maybe he wouldn’t have to remind him of some things. The figure waved at him and ran closer.

Yokoo narrowed his eyes and saw a very familiar smile. It had always been familiar, but this time it was like he hadn’t seen that smile in a while.

“Wataru!” Fujigaya jumped on Yokoo and hugged him.

“Taisuke?!”

“I remember you. I remember everything.”

“Everything?”

“All my life.”

“How is it possible?”

“I don’t know. I don’t know Wataru. But I remember when I arrived to the circus and the first time we met. I remember fighting against myself to not forget. I remember everyone and all the planets we visited.”

Yokoo looked at him astonished. Then a huge smile formed in his face as tears started to slide down his cheeks.

“Look, I even remember how to move in the skating act. I remember your orange skates and your habit of staying up late reading. I remember Kitayama and the way he sleeps everywhere and how you two argue about the daliesh act. I remember Miyata and Tamamori, the first time they started to skate and how they are always together trusting each other so much. And Nikaido, the way he drags Senga around with him in all his mischiefs. I remember Marius and the other kids. I remember Takizawa and the first time I saw him, whenI thought he could fly and Hasshi, Totsuka, Fumito, Goseki, Tsukada... I remember all of them. I remember the tears when I forgot everything. I remember what you all did for me during the past year even though I couldn’t remember you guys... Thank you. Thank you. Oh Wataru I lo- ”

“Shhh!” Yokoo placed a finger on Fujigaya’s lips. “I love you, Taisuke.”

Fujigaya was smiling and laughing and crying at the same time. Yokoo thought he was still dreaming, but then he realized how warm were the rays of the rising sun on his skin, how wet was the water at his feet, how alive was Fujigaya next to him. The sound of his laughter, like an healing charm, made him forget about the pain he had lived and invaded the sky with the past memories of their happiness and the thought of the future memories they could now share together.
