My birthday in detail

Jan 25, 2007 22:44

So, yesterday was my birthday. It was pretty sweet. At like 12:15 in the morning (so, the night before, sort of), my RA knocked on my door to tell me happy birthday and to tell me that he had put up some fliers announcing my birthday around the hall (like he does for everyone's birthday in the wing). They've got my picture on them, and a little blurb. My favorite one is the one with a picture of me and a picture of John Lennon, and the blurb says "John Lennon lives on 4A" haha. I have to admit, in that picture, there is a bit of a resemblance.

Anyway, then I went to bed, and when I woke up I felt kind of crummy (physically, I mean); a little sick. But not too bad. So I got up on got on the computer for a little bit. Well, I had to get up earlier than I usually do, because my trumpet lessons are now on Wednesday morning before my other classes; plus I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep, so I was up by like 7:20 or something. Anyway, I awoke to some nice messages and birthday wishes from people online, and my mom called to wish me happy birthday. Then as I was leaving the room to go take a shower, I noticed writing on the mirror--my roommate and a few other people had written notes to me on our mirror, it was pretty awesome. So, throughout the day random people would wish me happy birthday, because they had seen the fliers. And my trumpet teacher thought that it was the coolest thing that it was my birthday, haha. In German they sang to me, in German. In Music Theory, someone said happy birthday when I first walked in, and then everyone said it, some people repeatedly haha. And Dr. K said that his birthday is on Saturday (same birthday as Jerome Kern and Mozart). Then we had Music at Midweek, where we watched a video about the Philadelphia Orchestra which was pretty cool. After that I came back to my room and called Kelsea back, because she had left me a message, and as I was saying goodbye to her, I got a little surprise.

Allison, Alicia, and Kelli came to visit me! Usually when you have visitors, you have to go down and meet them, but I guess they made an exception this time, because they just kind of peeked around the corner of my doorway haha. So we hung out in my room for a while, and they gave me a cake they had made me, and hugs from people who couldn't make it, and they met some of my friends here. Then they had to leave at about 4:00 and I had to go to Aural Skills. So I did. I started feeling physically crummy again, so I couldn't sing very well, and definitely couldn't hold notes for very long. So I wasn't really sight-singing, but while everyone else was practicing these duets, the professor just gave me some dictation (because I had said we should do more, because it's great practice). It was a really hard one, but I nailed it! I was pretty excited. Then someone told him it was my birthday, and so they sang to me (actually, he sang this random birthday song I'd never heard, and neither had anyone else. But it was a funny little song, haha). Then I went to dinner, came back and chilled for a while, and then went to band.

During Band I had to keep leaving, because I got these killer hiccups and couldn't play, and I kept feeling sick. But it was okay, Dr. Cansler was totally understanding. So I came back, and hung out, tried to make myself feel better, and eventually went to bed at like 11:00. Pretty sweet. Pretty good day. Lots of birthday wishes and stuff. And lots of SUGAR. I didn't have any until after band when I was kind of feeling better, but I certainly have a bunch in my possession. There was the cake they brought me; my brother's girlfriend made me cookies and brought them in band (she's in band too); my mom sent two containers of cupcakes and a mini hand-sized cake thing for me (you can have Safeway send your college student stuff, it's pretty sweet. So she did). Soo, yeah. I kind of feel like I'm leaving something out, but I usually feel that way. If I remember, and it's important, I'll say it later.

So, that was my birthday! It was pretty awesome.
Love,
Paul
