Last week was terrible. Sunday was idyllic! Fall will be pretty spiffy, I thought. Until I started to get a dry scratchy feeling at the back of my throat. I didn't think much of it initially because I'd inhaled a lung-full of aerosol air freshener in the mid-afternoon. That itch developed into a monster sore throat (so much for the anti-bacterial agent in that spray doing its job!). My throat was so sore nothing could ease my suffering and as a result I woke every hour during the night. This is the first sore throat that dozens of glasses of water and constant throat lozenges hasn't been able to even ease.
The first night I slept with my head leaning backwards and my mouth open. As uncomfortable as the position was on my neck, it opened up the airway to my swollen burning throat. The next night I slept on the futon so my lady could get an uninterrupted night's sleep before she went in for dental surgery. I hallucinated and woke up a couple of times. My mood that night on the futon was akin to that of a scared and grumpy child.
Monday I took as a sick day. Tuesday I went in to work as my sinuses clogged up. I had a raspy voice, which I later joked to dealers was caused by late puberty. On top of my illness, I was worrying about Heather's surgery and how'd she be doing afterwards. She has mended quickly and was in good health until she got my sore throat and congestion combo.
So Heather not only had a swollen face and stitches inside the upper gum-line but she also began hacking and coughing. Just what her irritated mouth didn't need. Fortunately, she had days off to recover. Unfortunately, she has just begun to feel better as her fourth semester is starting up and her freedom ends. D'oh! Very frustrating.
The final icing on this crap cake of a week was to return home Thursday night to our landlord standing in gumboots looking down at the waterpipe in the front yard of our apartment complex. I remarked, "This doesn't look good." Then I found out a pipe had burst and we had no water. This revelation was particularly frustrating after a 14.5 hour day; I work and then a 3 hour night class at BCIT on Thursdays. I wanted nothing more than to take a hot shower. Instead all I had was: a bucket, a bit of warm water, a bar of soap, a wash cloth and a towel. Hooker wash.
What a week, what a week. In the greater scheme of things, the week was only a nuissance. No permanent damage was done to anyone. Our illnesses and water problems have been resolved. The weather has perked up too. The past week was rather overcast and gloomy, which didn't help anyones mood. Here's to better weeks. Hopefully the worst is out of the way early. *fingers crossed*
