I am now reading the latest Black Dagger Brotherhood book Lover Avenged, but massively good TV and other distractions have kept me from getting past the first 100 pages - even though so far it is very good. Much, much better than the last one. After this week my TV landscape should be calmer and I might knock it out this weekend.

I also just read mickiebg's book "Horizons" this past weekend and really enjoyed it.

I need to try to pick the Sookie Sackhouse books back up. I only made it threw about 3/4 of the first one and then lost interest. But I know so many people on lj and rl who love the series I really should give it another shake. I think I was traumatized by the accents in the show the night I read most of that book and so the flavor was just way off for me. See, I live about 100 miles from where those books most likely (I say that b/c it is a ficional town - but I hear that my home of Vicksburg, MS has been mentioned in one of the books at least) take place and I just have a huge hangup about the visualizations and auditory assaults that were planted in my head after watching some of the series. So yeah, alot of mental blocks on that front.

The books you mentioned by Steven Brust sound very interesting and I might just have to check them out. Summer is usually my heavy reading time since TV is usually either reality or nothing and, well - I'll take nothing in that race.

I'm planning to read it very soon and I'm really happy to hear it's better than the last one! I used to love that series, but the latest few books kinda sucked...I'll still read it, tho... ;-)

Eh, I never watched the series and your "mental block" is one of the reasons I didn't. I love the books and I have a pretty specific idea about the characters in my mind...I know how they look, how they speak, how they move...
I didn't want to ruin my mental image with something completely different (and probably ten times worse), so I decided to stick with the books and forget about the show. :-)

Please do! He is truly an awesome storyteller and he gets better and better with each book. His characters and his world will stay with you for a long time after you're done reading...*happy sigh*

I had the same issue with Sookie Sackhouse series. I really wanted to get into it, but I just couldn't though I really enjoy series in the similar vein:)
