So the girl child and I popped in Fantasia 2000. She likes to watch this one with me because the final sequence always makes me cry (serious
goddess/
stag death/creation imagery, very pagan, and very beautiful). There's also a gorgeous story set to "Rhapsody in Blue," and a fun and touching one to "Pomp and Circumstance." Seriously good stuff from Disney, if you can choke down the Disney part.
Well, the first
sequence is Beethoven's 5th, and the music is realized in very triangular,
butterfly-like shapes that come out of the water. Well, if you look at
this image, you can see they're not really butterflies at all. She said, "It's really interesting, the way they did the butterflies." And I said, "that's called concept art. They've hinted at the butterfly with the vague shape and the movement, but you can see they're really just..." *tilts head* "Well, they look like nachos." And she cracked up.
There are two sets of these butterflies: rainbow ones, and black ones. The black ones come in on the minor keys and are, naturally, the bad guys. And when those minor chords struck and the volcano exploded with the black bat-looking ones, she said "Ohoho, here come the Evil Nachos of Doom."
