Went to see Agora last night. The story is set in Roman Egypt, in 391 AD. As the Christians rise in power, they destroy the great Library of Alexandria, purge the city of Jews, and impose harsh laws aimed at controlling peoples behaviour, particularly women. Through the use of mob rule and the rejection of scientic enquiry for blind belief in the Scriptures as a literal source of truth, they create a society of fearfull, ignorant followers ruled over by autocratic, power-hungry hypocrites.
Welcome to the glorious birth of the Roman Catholic Church. Not much has changed really.
