Gyah. I need to clarify #4 because it indeed does not make sense as it stands. The study I copied these points from discusses the effects of class size and teacher quality as they relate to student achievement... by lowering class size in any school, the teacher supply pool is expanded, which will lead to either increased salary demands or a reduction in teacher quality due to novice teachers being brought in. In context, the "differences" are student achievement rates, so whether the school is in a high income zone or a low income zone, lowering class size will only tend to reduce teacher quality or increase salary demands instead of producing the desired increase in student achievement. Interestingly, by lowering class size in difficult to staff schools serving largely disadvantaged student populations, the potential tradeoff between teacher quality and class size is most poignant, since the experienced teachers reach a smaller audience and more novice teachers are brought in, all while salary demands amongst teachers rise.
