Horrifying things you might not know that I learn in honors economics:
1. Similar to most past research, we find absolutely no evidence that having a
master’s degree improves teacher skills.
2. There appear to be important gains in teaching quality in the first year of
experience and smaller gains over the next few career years. However, there
is little evidence that improvements continue after the first three years.
3. Class size appears to have modest but statistically significant effects on mathematics and reading achievement growth that decline as students progress
through school.
4. Any differences in school resource effects by family income are small.
So... based on zillions of tests, research that dates back to the 1960's, and lots of brainy statistically significant shit, WE'RE SPENDING BILLIONS ON EDUCATIONAL INPUTS AND NOTHING'S HAPPENING. NOBODY EVEN KNOWS HOW TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ANYTHING. JUMP SHIP, MAKE SURE YOUR WHITE KIDS HAVE THE BEST TEACHERS AND YOUR BLACK KIDS HAVE THE WORST TEACHERS AND WAIT FOR THE OTHER SUPERPOWERS TO SURPASS THE LAND OF THE FREE. Thanks for your overwhelming interest in mediocrity, America!
