It is just after midnight, and we need to be on the bus at 8am... probably not a good time to be finishing the tech support for my gracious hosts, but that is how these things go.
Had an interesting time wandering around the southern side of the river Thames through the old warehouses and hunting for the old tributary rivers (you can see where they should be, but they have been built over). John was wonderful in getting us into New Scotland Yard to see the SO2 museum of terrorist weapons. Some amazing pieces of work, and some where I am sure I could have done a better job (but you didn't hear that from me, OK?). Not a bad collection for a couple of hundred years of being threatened, shot at, and blown up. Threat level in England at the moment? "Tea will be served on time"
Destroyed an entire evening watching season one of Spaced.
Spent some time wandering around the local borough to see what there was to see. Found a nice wetland area that took just over an hour to wander through because I stopped to watch ducks, squirrels and swans every so often. All the mulberries are ripe, and quite tasty, only a few of the locals were out gathering. Apparently the artificial lake used to be quite popular as a day trip for Londoners to get out and enjoy a decadent afternoon of swimming and sailing until the city grew out to meet it. It's original purpose was as a reservoir to the canal system, these days it is a conservation area.
I followed the river south from the area until I hit private property bordering the railway. Given the lethal potential in the London rail system I don't blame the council blocking it off (the electric rail system has live current in a second set of rails next to the load bearing rails).
Destroyed an entire evening assisting John in sending his genealogy reports and photos to a new contact/relative he found last week.
