IE 8

Apr 23, 2009 20:47

I finally installed IE8. Don't install it from Yahoo!. It says "Windows Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo!" at the top of the window. Lame.

Anyway, one feature I find amusing is the Compatibility View feature. It's a little button that shows up by the address bar for some webpages and says: "websites designed for older browsers will often look better, and problems such as out of place menus, images or text will be corrected." So basically it means "Sites that were tweaked to look okay in IE6 but appear fucked up in every other proper HTML compliant rendering browser will now look fucked up in IE until you click this." Maybe this means IE8 will finally render pages correctly, eliminating the need for workarounds to get the page to display the same in IE and Firefox. "Older browsers" my ass. They mean older versions of IE!
