Eldest and I went to the funeral of a beautiful 29 year young man today. His wife, mother and 3 sisters were so devestated. He was killed in a car accident on the evening of Saturday 25th July, and his baby sister was about to compete in her first event in the World Swimming Champs in Rome.
He lived a life that was full of people, fun, mates, good times and lots of laughs - he was a real larrikin, as told by his life-long best mate today at the funeral. He loved to surf, was a surf lifesaver from as soon as he could join Nippers, and was right into polocrosse and polo in the last few years. And looking after his family and friends.
His 3 year old daughter and eight month old son will never get to know their dad, just as his baby sister never got to know theirs, as he was killed 17 years ago in just the same way.
If you have kids go and hug them and tell them to please be safe when behind the wheel of a lethal weapon. Too many people have huge holes left in their lives when tragic accidents like this happen.
RIP Amos - you will be sorely missed. Let's hope that at least one good thing that comes from this is another might think twice about driving tired, or letting a friend drive tired.
And enjoy that great left-hander off the point with your dad!
