Mushishi, ep. 10-13

Spoilers for all four eps.

I watched the one with the inkstone, the one with the mushishi on the mountain, the one with the fish (waaah!), and the one with the mushi bridge.

I wasn't as interested in the one with the mushishi on the mountain, largely because I'd read about it in the manga. Also, I kept wanting to shake the other mushishi. As I cannot quite remember why he stayed on the mountain, I can only attribute this to irascibleness, possibly having to do with botched knitting.

On the other hand, it ended with an image of the mushi-snake coiled around the mountain, which I loved.

I very much liked the one with the inkstone and how it was activated and deactivated. I'm not sure what else to say about it, except the image of all the clouds being exhaled into the mountain air is gorgeous. And I really like the inkstone woman.

The one with the bridge was extremely creepy. I kept wanting to shake people to say that the girl was dead! She was only animated by mushi! Ditto with the guy in the end. Like I said, creepy! Seeing all those little mushi tendrils searching for life was also really creepy, and then they turned gorgeous as they wove themselves into a bridge by moonlight. I was reminded of the bridge of birds from the Tanabata/Qi Xi legend.

The one with the fish! octopedingenue said it would gut me (she made the pun, not me!), and oh. I like the women of the show a lot so far, and Nui is one of my favorites. The image of all those white, green-eyed, one-eyed fish swimming around is so strange and disturbing and beautiful and creepy! And it just kills me that Ginko remembers none of it, save his name.
