  • The first PoC in SF/F carnival is up! willow_dot_com has some great links in there, along with really good commentary about POC in SF/F books, games, TV and movies. Also, she starts the post with a nice summation of why the carnival is necessary.

  • Nominate books for the Carl Brandon Awards! Deadline is Tuesday, July 31. SF/F works by POC are eligible, as are any ( Read more... )

Oooh, thanks for all the links. I'm always on the lookout for new book-bloggers to read.

shewhohashope has been blogging both about books and about race and racism in the UK.

How? We all know perfectly well there's no racism in the UK...!

I've got it sitting on my bookshelf, but I haven't gotten around to read it yet... probably should bump it up the list.

I'm signed up for GoodReads, but I haven't decided whether I'm actually going to use it yet, since I already booklog here and on my website and keep my book catalog on LibraryThing. I like the sort of social, community feel to it, though.

Thanks for booklog linkage -- I always like to find new bookbloggers. I keep thinking about going through my booklog posts and adding author tags, but I'm currently in a lazy phase rather than an obsessive one. :)

I know! I was conflicted as well, and I wasn't going to use it because I keep everything on LJ. And then people starting posting little reviews there, and I was lost....

not everyone is reading the same things I read apostle_of_eris July 17 2007, 01:11:45 UTC
I generally assume that people who are reading my LJ are doing so because they're interested in anime and manga, books, and race. I blog about other things too, but these three seem to be the big ones lately.

There's the opposite end of the scale, too. I've been reading your blog since running into you at Wiscon, partly because our worlds overlap only along a couple of edges. I would guess that we have relatively few people in common, and, for instance, I skip over most of your manga book reviews because I have neither the particular interest nor the background for them.
(OTOH, if anyone can find a copy of the movie Dixieland Daimyo, I WANT IT.)

Anyway, one of the reasons I might "friend" someone on LJ is because of the small overlap in interest, not the opposite.
