London

It was a little surreal, Monday in London. The only tiny hint of trouble I noticed was the National Theatre closing straight after the play in the evening, instead of staying open until 11. There were lists of closed stations on the tube, and a few more police officers than usual at the railway station, but it was barely noticeable.

Reading the paper yesterday, news of all the riots, it seemed like I was reading about a different city. And now it's sinking in that it's all over the country. Vandals and thieves and even murderers, opportunistic louts with no cause or agenda, just the thrill of destruction.

So to counteract all the photos of fires and looting, here's a picspam of the London I love - a selection of snapshots I've taken this year. Hover over the picture for the location (or Londoners can see if they can guess).

I've missed out so many places I love: Holland Park, the walk along the canal from Regent's Park to Camden, the view from Primrose Hill, Canary Wharf, Covent Garden in the evening, the comfy sofas in the Finborough Arms. Maybe another day, another picspam.
