See me, Smallville, Chloe/Oliver, surrendernuevayuimaxwellApril 14 2007, 22:19:16 UTC
He wished she would see him when she looked at him. She knew him, she knew him better than most people, but she still didn’t see him when she looked at him. He wished she would see past the friendship to discover the devotion, the love he holds for her. But Chloe only has eyes for her dark haired best friend, and Oliver knows when he’s out of the game.
So he cherishes all she gives him, the small moments, the biggest laugh, the gentle tease. He never asks for more, content with being at lease one of her boys.
He’s by her side at every heartache, for every victory, through every defeat. He watches her blossom into a beautiful woman, a successful reporter, a fair hero of her own kind.
He knows how capable she is of defending herself, but he can’t help himself and tries to be her knight in shinning armour, or at least in green leather armour.
It’s the biggest cliché of all, and one night he saves her from yet another kidnapping attempt, she holds onto him longer than she needs to, and he starts to hope again.
When she comes to him willingly, he knows he’s only the second choice. He’s older, he’s wiser and should know better than giving her his heart. But when he sees the pain that her green eyes hold, he swears he will never let anyone hurt her anymore.
It’s not easy, and on her cousin’s wedding day, she looks so defeated that he wonders if he will ever be able to truly make her happy.
But it’s only months later that he realized how wrong he had been all those years. She looks at him with such distress, her hand holding on to the key of her cage. He tells her she’s the one that has the ultimate choice, but that if she chooses to go through with it, he wouldn’t let her go. No Queen child would be born out of wedlock.
She cries in his arms, and he believes he has lost her forever. With nothing to lose anymore, he finally confesses what he feels for her. When she looks up to him, he realizes he was the blind one. That the light in her eyes at that moment had always been there, that she had long ago surrendered her heart to him. He was the one that couldn’t see her, and his kisses are now filled with the promises of making up for the lost time.
