Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása

Why has no one told me about Sigur Ros before? If it weren't for ice_crystal I'd still be languishing in ignorance! And I spend enough time there as it is.

Anyway, thanks to her, I have seen simply the most beautiful music video. I won't say anything about the story as part of the impact of the video is watching the story unfold, but I will have to babble for a bit about the imagery. It's all in slow motion, which somehow accentuates the emotion in the music, and yet at no time feels forced or wrong. The cinematography is stunning without being intrusive - the lighting is soft and subtle and shots are beautifully framed. There is one moment when we see the young boy who is the focus of the story through the empty eye of a doll he was holding, and there are some wonderful slow panning shots. I was even more impressed when I discovered that the band had directed it themselves.

Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása (~ 95 MB) - I've uploaded it for anyone else out there who hasn't discovered it yet. If you can't download from YSI, leave a comment with your email address and I'll send you an alternative link.

If you'd just like to listen to the music, right click and save this: Sigur Ros - Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása (~ 14MB) Actually, you should probably save this anyway, as the video is 7 minutes but the track itself is over 10 minutes.

It's hard to capture the story of the video with just a few images, but in case you're not able to download the video, or just want to see what it's all about first, you should take a look at these.

There's also a complete set of full-size caps here, in the misc caps section.

You can buy the DVD that includes this video, and all their CD's here. And also in your local, friendly music shop.

And yes, I'm aware that I've gone totally overboard here, but that's the impact this video has had on me.
