Oxford University Poetry Society - 1st week events

Oct 08, 2007 17:50

Dear oxonians,

The committee of Oxford University Poetry Society would like to invite all poetry writers, readers and lovers to participate in our 1st week events:

On Wednesday our first writing workshop of the term will take place at the Mitre (on the High) at eight o'clock. Do come along to discuss your poetic musings in an informal, supportive and sometimes rather surreal atmosphere. If you would like to bring a poem we
suggest several photocopies to hand round, but there’s no pressure - everyone’s
welcome to come and meet fellow poetry enthusiasts over a drink. There will be
termcards available if you missed them at Freshers’/ReFreshers' Fair.

On Thursday our first poetry reading will be given by Annie Freud, described in the TLS as 'an ironist of love and desire'. It takes place at the Lincoln EPA Science
Centre on Museum Road, at eight o'clock (but please arrive at 7.45 so we can get started on time!). There will be wine, and a chance to meet the poet and ask questions.
Cost: £3 for the evening, £10 term membership, £25 year membership.

After the reading we will be launching the new bitermly poetry magazine ASH - only £2 a copy. You can meet the contributors, and the committee will also be on hand to chat about future events this term and how to contribute to the next issue!

*Other readings this term:*

2nd week - Lucy Newlyn
3rd week - Gillian Clarke
4th week - Peter McDonald
5th week - Matthew Sweeney
6th week - Fiona Sampson
7th week - [non-OUPS event: reading at Balliol under the auspices of Professor Ricks]
8th week - Femi Oyebode

All OUPS readings take place at the Lincoln EPA Science Centre, 7.45 for 8pm.
