So, many folks here have commented on the scene in which Rorschach says that Dan is a good friend and they clasp hands and they stay holding hands for a liiiiittle too long and it gets awkward.  Then, once they let go of each other, Rorschach turns away and adjusts his scarf ( Read more... )

I just looked the scene up and you're right, I can't believe I didn't notice that before.

I'd argue it's more just normal, friendly affection between them. I love the idea of the pairing, I really do, but honestly Rorschach it just a non-sexual character in my mind. Him acknowledging he has any kind of emotion is incredibly uncomfortable for him, however, so I think it's a very strong proof of the level of affection he has for Dan.

This. It's fun to imagine what ifs and imagine if this happens, but in the end Rorschach is as asexual as they come. However, he definitely feels something towards Dan. It's some form of love, most certainly not lust, and very honest.

I dunno, I kinda disagree. It's true that we never see him act in any way remotely sexual. And possibly he never does anything sexual in his whole life! But when he talks about putting on his costume he says he "became myself, free from fear or weakness or lust". Which would imply that maybe other times, like when he's more Walter than Rorschach, he DOES feel fear, weakness and lust.

I mean, he tries to act like he's something more than human, but he is a human being, after all.

I would like to think that it is a mixture of both. Rorschach, being a person who grew up with no friends and being a misogynist and misanthropist has had very little experience with feelings of affection. So when it comes to Daniel, being his only friend, Rorschach probably has difficulty differentiating a feeling of platonic affection from an intimate affection. I personally think he cares for Daniel to a degree that is higher than friendship because Daniel is the only person who accepts him, helps him, and understands him, but at the same time, he deeply treasures his friendship with Daniel. I'm not exactly sure if he has a sexual attraction towards Daniel; I think he is slightly attracted to Daniel, but is not explicitly attracted to him due to the years of morals that were ingrained into his head.

So yes, I think his feelings for Daniel are more than platonic but he just doesn't realize it yet or he is in denial.

I agree completely; he loves Daniel as much he is capable of loving anyone. Daniel is Ror's "precious person," to pirate a phrase from another fandom.

(And I need to get a Watchmen icon, for realz.)

Maybe it’s just a coincidence (I don’t think so), but this can be something like a subtext too, really. Why not?
