So, many folks here have commented on the scene in which Rorschach says that Dan is a good friend and they clasp hands and they stay holding hands for a liiiiittle too long and it gets awkward.  Then, once they let go of each other, Rorschach turns away and adjusts his scarf.

I just noticed that in Chapter 7, on page 6, there's a very similar scene in which Dan is holding Laurie's hand longer than necessary and she comments on it and he awkwardly lets her go and turns away and adjusts his tie.

Considering how pretty much every detail in Watchmen is deliberate and how fond Moore was of symmetry in this work, it seems likely that this isn't a coincidence.  It seems likely that both scenes are meant to show the same thing -- someone's feelings for someone else manifesting by holding on to them for too long and then by having to turn away and occupy their hands to feel less embarrassed.  The only question is, in the case of Rorschach, are those feelings of friendship, or are they something more serious, as in Dan and Laurie's case?  :)
