[ ooc ] shouta demon power up! (complex not included)

Spoilers for up to Chapter 6 AHOY! Alright so as I've repeated practically ad nauseum, Kokonose is the 9th lord of the Mutsu clan. With the limited canon we've got to work with, it's been heavily implied and only later on outright stated that this clan was some sort of demonic ruling family, specifically the one that ruled over the Onigashima Island of the Momotarou folktale (which Kokonose suggests is the present Tougen Island). It's also implied that the power of the demons (or at least the strength of the clan) has waned in the 800 years from when the folktale supposedly took place. Kokonose after encountering his first demon is shaken to realize that he wasn't recognized as the destined master by the demon at all.

BUT! Chapter 6 brings some more surprising revelations and food for thought. The Momotarou has dropped a surprise quiz on his newly recruited demon hunters in the form of a staged demon attack without the intervention of the teachers. People are getting eaten by the cute monsters left and right (see leftmost square on the diagram). But since the Momotarou isn't totally sadistic, those monsters are actually made of bubblegum! They're actually quite harmless.

Except for one monster that encounters Kokonose and Yura (an older female demon hunter in the same class as Kokonose but who is capable of transforming into her monkey form order to combat demons. Why yes I said monkey form.) on a cliffside while Yura was nonchalantly sipping tea. The following exchange then ensues: (translation from Hana-mi!)

Yura: Mutsu-kun.
Kokonose: What?
Yura: I wonder if maybe you really do have demon blood.
Kokonose: ...So, what's that got to do with anything?
Yura: Watch closely. That demon you just saw... [ panels of the bubblegum monster transforming into what you see in the rightmost square in the diagram ] It's not so cute and weak anymore, is it?

So I've taken this to mean that the demons are actually responding to Mutsu's presence. That it was Mutsu (whether his blood or whatever latent demonic power he's got) who prompted that transformation from the cute bubblegum monster to THAT much more dangerous demon. I could be proven wrong later on since again, limited canon but I think I've got a sound basis for this interpretation!

So after this tl;dr explanation, what does this have to do with you? If you've got a demon character or some other similarly demon-related entity, an encounter with Kokonose might just power them up! Would you like this to happen? If this would interfere with your gameplay, we can just never get into it but I thought this might be a fun aspect of the character to bring into play here!

ooc, hoho magic!
