If I Were King of OwbN - New Setting

I got really ranty and unfocused yesterday, part of it was because the day was winding down and it was time for me to go. I'm going spit out some more stuff, but try to get stupid and I'll do it in parts. Once again, this is just one dumb guy's words.

This is awesome, Jayson. And not just because you invoked images of Dean as Justicar :-)

You are absoluetly correct. The only problem with this vision is it would require completely rejecting the cherished myth of Chrnonicle Sovereignty -- The idea that each game is its own body that gets to spin its own version of the WoD.

I think that the OWBN Universe SHOULD be codified, and the first thing that happens? Mages go away. Fuck the Technocracy, fuck Mages. Next, get rid of the Changelings. The rest can probably be worked with.

I don't think the idea of Chronicle Sovereignty needs to be reject, but I do think it should be revised, though I'll comment on that a bit later.

I don't really think Mages and Changelings need to go away, as they make for fine enough antagonists if used correctly, just like anything else.

Obviously it will all depend on your definition. But the original version of Chron Sov, as least as far as I understood it, was that the ST of "Hometown By Night" could say "You know what, in my world, Justicar Masako's reaction to event X would be this, not what you said, Mr. Coord" etc. In other words, everyone got full editorial rights over what exactly the WoD was and how it worked ( ... )

Chronicle Sovereignty is a lot like a cow pie. It can be a lot of different things in the right hands. Even if it does smell funny ( ... )

People don't understand Changelings very well to use them as antagonists in vampire games, unless they're redcaps or Shadow Court, and even then any kind of vampire who can politic their way out of their butt can deal with a dying race of living dreams that the very presence of banal vampires harms.

That's just it. As written there are really no reasons for them ever to become an antagonist for vampires, unless you just want to contrive one to use them.

However, if you re-wrote Changelings into something more like what we see in Guillermo del Toro movies, you can certainly make up compelling antagonists.

Agreed

Also, codifying OWBN Lore would be helpful in managing issues like in Game A everyone and their brother knows about the Technocracy, because its a regualr plot device, while in Game B people are not even allowed to speak the name "Technocracy" without Mage Lore 5.
