Doctor, make it better instantly, you're the only one who can...

Feb 19, 2008 00:01

"DOOOOCTOOOOOR!"

You'll hear him before you see him. A more than slightly worried shout echoing down the stairs, well in advance of his arrival.

And then Jack comes rocketing down the stairs, almost slamming into the wall as he turns the corner, and runs into the lobby of the inn, just managing to skid to a halt before slamming into a table ( Read more... )

JD is chillin' like a villain on the couch, working on paperwork, actually. Yeah, work plus JD. Who would've thought this was an actual equation?

Of course, anyone yelling doctor like that is bound to catch anyone with a PhD's attention.

"I'm a doctor!" He bounces to his feet, folders in a mess on the floor. Pout. Totally not cool, but then he looks up and notices the seriousness of this man's face and quickly focuses in on him. "What happened?"

Jack's a little startled to see someone he doesn't recognize bounding to his feet and approaching him, because he hadn't taken into account the thought that anyone but the Doctor might respond to his shouting.

"Sorry. I meant someone specific, not you. I'm just..." He runs a hand through his hair distractedly and looks around the room. The Doctor's got to be around somewhere. There's been some version of him in here almost constantly since Jack got here.

"Oh. You mean the Doctor." JD nods and searches the lobby for the 8th regeneration, which is the only one that he would be able to recognize. "I haven't seen him here today. At least the one that I know, I know there are different... ones of him running around. But I can help you look! Since it seems to be kind of an emergency."

Jack swears. Loudly. And resists the urge to punch a wall or something.

"Emergency is a mild term," he growls. "My friend's supposed to be saving the world, and instead, she's sick in my room coughing up blood."

Yeah, sure, he could drag an actual medical doctor up there, but if he's like most people around here, he's only from the 21st century, and they don't have the technology to fix Martha fast enough to make Jack happy. Of course, he'd only be happy with an instant cure, all things considered...

Five was just exiting his TARDIS when he hears the shouts and he's a little befuddled. And the sight of the rather panicked man? Well, that even gets the slightest quirk of an eyebrow.

"Well, I think that's certainly a new way to say it. I particularly like the over pronounced 'o' at the beginning." Approaching Jack slowly, he offers the other a the faint flicker of a smile before his more concerned nature really takes over. "Is there something the matter?"

Because people screaming his name? Generally speaking, not a good thing.

Jack recognizes most versions of the Doctor, even the ones from before he initially met him. While he never actually got to speak to any of them, he made a point of looking out for the Doctor in the twentieth century, so... He knows things you wouldn't expect him to.

Therefore, he takes the Fifth Doctor in stride.

"I was actually looking for the Tenth, but you'll do." He takes the Doctor by the arm and just starts walking toward the stairs with him. He promised Martha he'd be back in two minutes. "Martha's sick."

Because he'll even know who Martha is, as far as Jack knows.

Five is a little taken aback when the man speaks. Really, now, spouting insults when he was trying to help? Hm.

Following after Jack (because he really didn't seem to have a choice) he thinks to question the other, thinks to question why this fellow feels odd, feels different, but the mention of Martha clears his mind completely.

"Martha is?" there's deep concern in his voice, "What has happened to her?"

Jack's glad to hear the concern there, and the fact that this Doctor apparently does know Martha. Thank fucking God.

"She's been walking around the world. Don't ask me why, she can't tell me, but apparently there's something apocalyptic going on. And now she's got a fever and she's coughing up blood, which is only to be expected when you walk through South America without even getting a shot, but..."

It's Martha. Jack expects her to be immune to everything, because she's Martha.

Reki is the type that feels bound to help in a crisis. And by the volume of this, it's definitely a crisis. She approaches Jack with the table between them.

"Slow down, what's wrong?"

Jack takes a deep breath, scanning the room for the Doctor as he answers.

"Not the end of the world or anything, just... my friend."

Oh, Jack. With the eloquent explanations.

"Your friend is...sick?" Reki feels this to be a solid guess, considering the "doctor" bit.

Jack sighs. He really doesn't have time for this. "Yes, she's sick, but I'm not looking for an actual Doctor, I'm looking for the Doctor. She travels with him."

The Doctor can't help but note that the last time he heard Jack scream his name like that, it landed them all at the end of the universe and everything just went downhill from there...

It's with this in mind that he'll get to his feet, eyebrows raised and stride over to the other. Because really, whatever he's going to tell him can't be that terrible, can it? Sure he looks scared out of his mind but really that's not too much cause for alarm.

...Okay yes, yes it is.

"What? What is it? What's happened?"

And see, he runs down the stairs yelling for the Doctor, and here he is, just like magic. It's no wonder every single one of the Doctor's companions feels the need to yell his name just like that.

Jack takes a moment to, well, breathe after his sprint down the stairs before responding. Just a moment, though, because the two minutes he promised Martha are ticking down. Yes, he's taking this very seriously.

"Martha needs you upstairs. She's... sick."

"She's what?"

The Doctor looks at him almost blankly for just a moment before starting back up the stairs two at a time.

"Well let's go then! We can't do anything for her standing around down here!"

he's ignoring things like anything that could even remotely tell him what's going on but he can get those once he ses Martha. That and he's sure Jack is going to fill him in, at least a little while they rush back to her.

And now Jack's actually following the Doctor up the stairs, which, while unexpected, is good. If it gets the Doctor up there faster, he's all for it.

"My room," he says shortly, just so the Doctor knows where he's going. "Second floor up, fifth on the left." Of course, it's got his name on it and everything, but you never know with the Doctor.

"She's been walking around the world, you know. South America... Africa... All full of nasty things that can give you a fever and make you cough up blood."
