John Smith has been keeping to himself, for the most part.
He'd found a room (and survived the shock of it being nearly identical to his room at the school) shortly after his brief conversation with the Doctor; spending most of his time there, trying to come to terms with everything.
He still has to come down for meals, though, which is why he's seated in a booth.
The pancakes weren't what he was expecting at this hour.
"Huh. Shrove Tuesday here as well, then?"
He looks up at the speaker - Irish, young and unkempt.
"It was November when I arrived." Surely he hadn't been here that long?
"Just 'cause you came in from a certain time doesn't mean it's goin' t'be th' same here." The boy shakes his head, grinning. "'S weird like that, this place."
