There are some things that people just can't take.
It's different for everyone, of course. Something that would hardly phase one person could completely uproot someone else's whole world. Something that breaks one person, maybe beyond repair, could be something that hardly slows someone else down.
Four days ago, Steve hit something that he couldn't bounce back from like he usually does.
The realization that he really can't get Gordon back, no matter how much he wants to.
He's been hiding in his room, but now he's standing and staring at the door, trying to decide whether or not to leave. Once he's back in New York, he's decided, he needs to just start over. Pack up, move out of town, find a new home, a new job, a new church, a new support group. Never a new guy, though. He knows he won't be over Gordon soon enough for that - he's only got a few years left, if he's lucky.
The problem is that he loves New York. It's his home. All his friends are there. But things there... there's too much history there that he can't seem to move past.
So he's standing, staring at the door, looking like he's lost everything. He has, really.
He just has to get the courage to leave.
