I feel myself slipping. I'm losing touch of the strength I recently gained. I feel like I'm teetering over a chasm. It's a familiar place. A place I knew...about seven years ago. And six years ago. And three years ago. In different ways, I'm reminded of the wallowing of those times. Seeing my old TOD takes me back to seven years ago, when I began ( Read more... )

They say that the problem with people nowadays is that they find it harder to escape their pasts. Because of google caches, old journal entries, old articles, forums, websites, you name it. People just cant move on and really start a new life for themselves anymore. Even if you move, make a family, find new hobbies... there'll also be a readily accessible log of your life.

What I think is, you gotta make the most of it. You learn from your past, and you appreciate how things were, and most of all, even if things were bad, you gotta know that things were considered bad then because things are better now. We constantly progress, we learn to adapt, to grow, and to overcome. And everyone has their cycle of bad moments, and sad ones. And at some point we will eventually lose every one of our family members over time. And one day our family members will lose us. At some point we realize this, and we grow to embrace this as a strength, that we can overcome it, that we can learn from it, grow from it, and most importantly, appreciate the things we have in this world.

So think of it... the things you do have. You still have your friends of many years. And you still have the internet, you still ahve your escapes, you still have your favorite places to hang out, even if you move and your preferences change, you'll always have somewhere to go. You still have freedom, you still have many more years to live. There are so many things you do have, that are just building blocks to creating even more things to have and appreciate.

And what you had, and what you have are memories of the past. They make for good stories... but never drown yourself in the past because the past is the foundation for the future. Keep your head looking foward, and plan out your next day instead of brood over a past one. And embrace your past as a good basis of how to approach the future. That's all any of us can really do.

So chin up : ) We're all in the same boat <3
