Jan 11, 2009 23:15

Rules and such:
1. Watch 150 or more movies in 2009.
2. Keep track of how many you watch in a post.
3. Record only first-time movies.
4. Leave entry public for recommendations if anyone has any.

The cupcake rating system:

don't bother.

not awful but not great.

see it.

purchase it.

001. The Prestige

I thought this was excellent. It's about illusionists back in the day. Christian Bale & Hugh Jackman are in it.

002. Dead Man Walking

The lady who played Sean Penn's mom made me cry. I really liked it though.

003. The Wizard of Gore

Awful. I want the two hours of my life I wasted on this back plz. The gore isn't even good in it, there's like none. I spent more time seeing naked Suicide Girls than gore.

004. Thank You For Smoking

Hilarious. Lots of fun. But scary that there are truly so many people in the world who have jobs like that, who do things like that.

005. Deception

Boring. I didn't feel anything towards it. I didn't care when it ended.

006. The Bucket List

Really, really good. Sad, I shed a few tears. But I laughed a whole lot too.

007. The Air I Breathe

I don't have words for how bad this was.

008. Identity

I wasn't expecting any part of this. I loved it. But I love mindfuck movies.

009. Rounders

I wish we'd gotten to see what happened to Ed Norton in the end but other than that, no complaints. Definitely enjoyable.

010. Memento

I liked it, but I have no need to own it or ever watch it again. It was one of those really good but one time only viewing movies.

011. Wild America

Devan Sawa and Jonathan Taylor Thomas, how can you go wrong!? Why didn't I see this when it came out and I was like, a tween?

012. Max Payne

Really dark, really weird, really good.

013. Kung Fu Panda

It wasn't awful but I didn't really enjoy it, either. Jack Black as the panda was really distracting to me for some reason.

014. Zack & Miri Make a Porno

HILARIOUS. I read a lot of bad reviews about it so I wasn't expecting it to be good but I really enjoyed it.

015. Mr. Brooks

I was told it was awful but I liked it. I thought it was interesting. Especially with the daughter. I actually wish his dream was the ending though.

016. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

Love.

017. Dorothy Mills

About a girl on an island in Ireland that's occupied by some religious cult and she's possessed. It's actually really good though, I was shocked. Especially by the twist at the end.

018. The Tenth Circle

Based on a book. Lifetime Movie. Enough said.

019. Red Mist

So these med students accidentally turn a weird janitor into a veggie, and one brings his mind back to life and he uses it to kill people. Riiight. I watched it all just to see how it ended and I'll give them props for that, but it just wasn't that good.

020. Spinal Tap

Hilarious.

021. My Best Friend's Girl

Also hilarious. I love Dane Cook and I love Kate Hudson so this was pretty much a guaranteed win with me, but it was actually really fucking funny. Stay away if you don't like crude humor though.

022. Repo! The Genetic Opera

AHH REPO! Okay so it was voted the worst movie of 2008 by something, and I completely disagree. In the same vein that Snakes on a Plane is amazing, Repo! is perfection. Paris Hilton plays an heiress addicted to plastic surgery and narcotics and at one point, her face falls off. Worth the price of the rental alone.

023. Zombie Strippers

Jenna Jameson's starring role suckered me in. And it was great seeing her as a zombie stripper. But it should be watched on mute, definitely.

024. Good Luck Chuck

Unexpectedly cute, yet still really funny. Dane was a good guy for once and that was different to watch. I loved what he said to his receptionist when she jumped on him.

025. Pathology

Couldn't get into this. I did like the ending, though.

026. Revolver

Interesting, and good, but once was enough. I'll never watch it again.

027. Tortured

Not knowing what he was going to actually do to the guy every day was scarier/more suspenseful than most horror movies are lately. Loved.

028. Gospel Hill

It's about racism in a small town that goes back years upon years and still exists today. I thought it was really good.

029. Acts of Worship

This was so good it gave me chills the entire time I watched it.

030. The Changling

Incredible that this is a true story. Really.

031. Religulous

Bill Mahar is hilarious.. and I basically agree with like everything he said. I love the part when he compares god hearing prayers to santa delivering presents to every child in the world in one night.

032. What Just Happened

It didn't wow me. Especially the ending. Just, whatev. Did have some funny moments though so it didn't entirely suck.

033. Choke

Fucked up. Loved it.

034. Fireproof

It stars Kirk Cameron so obviously it's a bit religious but it wasn't corny. I actually liked it. He goes through a lot to make his marriage work again and it's nice to see that.

035. Stiletto

Boring.

036. Cashback

I enjoyed this. It was funny, it was sad, it was awww; it had it all. However if you don't want to see a whole lot of naked girls, don't watch it.

037. Let The Right One In

Vampire movie that kinda really sucked.

038. Role Models

Hilarious thankyouverymuch.

039. Milk

Loved it. I was inspired. I cried. Everyone should see it.

040. The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things

Someone somewhere online wrote a review and said something along the lines of "this movie needs to be seen by everyone, discussed for days, and held as the standard of what NEVER to do to a child." It's true. Go watch it. You'll be disgusted. I was almost literally sick over it.

041. Twilight

It wasn't as bad as I had expected. I might even see the second one.

042. Across The Universe

I fucking loved this. I'm purchasing it tonight.

043. An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder

Hilarious. Then again I just like to listen to Kevin Smith talk.

044. Suburban Mayhem

Totally fucked up.

045. Seven Pounds

I CRIED SO HARD.

046. Boy A

Boring. Entirely too slow moving for me. Which sucks because the preview looked fantastic.

047. Monsters vs. Aliens

So funny. And adorable. Bob!!

048. Mallrats

Shoulda watched it years ago. Clearly.

049. Sold Out: A Threevening With Kevin Smith

Again, hilarious. But again, I just like to listen to Kevin Smith talk.

050. Body of Lies

Leonardo plays a CIA agent and things get sticky, as they do, and shit happens, as it does, and it was just really good.

051. Horton Hears A Who

Totally adorable; has made dozens of young children call people boobs. Fantastic.

052. Ratatouille

So cute. And the food he cooked looked good haha.

053. Slap Shot

I laughed a lot. Good for a depressing day.

054. Resurrecting the Champ

It was really enjoyable, but it's one of those movies that the end makes it, and once you see the end, you can't watch it the same way again.

055. Yes Man

Not the typical Jim Carrey humor, like Ace Ventura type shit, but funny.

056. The Haunting of Molly Hartley

One time viewing only. Chace was hot as a bad guy though.

057. The Spirit

Okay, I watched this a few months ago, gave it a good rating, and can't remember it at all to add a review. My bad. Maybe it didn't deserve that rating? I'm demoting it. Two cupcakes!

058. Nobel Son

Looked good but I really wasn't into it.

059. Ten Inch Hero

Quirky, cute, worth watching.

060. Fast Times at Ridgemont High

I liked it.

061. How About You

It's about old people and an irresponsible girl and they get stuck together and have to spend the holidays together.

062. Bride Wars

Pretty much stupid. Some funny bits but they were all in the previews and the ones that weren't, aren't worth watching. Really.

063. The Wrestler

Maybe it's the fan in me but I fucking loved it.

064. I Love You, Man

A+. Utterly hilarious. I want it on dvd right now.

065. Definitely, Maybe

Eh. Decent but not fantastic.

066. What Doesn't Kill you

Boring. I didn't care about the characters, or what happened to them.

067. Storm Cell

Stupid.

068. Taken

Phenomenal. A good balance of action and a great story line.. amazing.

069. Wolverine

I LIKED IT OKAY. IDC THAT IT DIDN'T FOLLOW THE COMICS!

070. Fanboys

It was cute because all of these friends get together and do something for their one friend who has cancer, but it just wasn't that good.

071. Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Pretty funny.

072. The Watchmen

Loved it. Have become obsessed. Bought the graphic novel.

073. Midnight Meat Train

The previews looked so good but it was awful.

074. The Uninvited

I never expected the ending and it just blew my mind. And I noticed more little things each time I watched it afterwards that made sense for the ending. Great.

075. He's Just Not That Into You

I felt sorry for the one girl in it but she was right- at least she kept putting herself out there. Cute movie, brings up some truths about dating that people don't like to put out there.

076. Cutting Class

Hilariously awful. Brad Pitt was hot though.

077. I Could Never Be Your Woman

Cutesy. Good for a cheer up day. Plus Paul Rudd is in it.

078. Waitress

Matlock redeemed it but he kicked the bucket so it doesn't get a thumbs up.

079. Fred Klaus

I've literally been trying to watch this movie since it came out on dvd last year, and I always get bored and turn it off. So I finally finished it. And it was just so not worth wasting all this time on.

080. Gran Torino

Excellent. He was so racist at first, and through most of it, which I really hate but it served it's purpose. And the ending was phenomenal.

081. Madea Goes To Jail

It really wasn't that funny. The best parts were her with Dr. Phil, which was a 2 minute bit, and then her in jail, which lasted 10 minutes tops. The rest was just annoying to me.

082. Teeth

It amazed me how serious this movie took itself. A girl's vagina has teeth and eats things that enter without permission.. or things that are in it while she gets pissed off. She purposely .. okay, I won't ruin the end. It's just not worth watching.

083. The Babysitters

Teenage girls are fucking grown men after babysitting their kids.. and getting paid extra for it. Teenage drama ensues.. it was very boring and predictable.

084. Casino

Wow.

085. 1408

Really weird but I liked it. The false end got me.

086. Confessions of A Shopaholic

Cute, funny, and made me want to shop. Her clothes weren't for me but I loved her shoes.

087. The Hangover

One of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

088. Mystery, Alaska

It was really cute. I'm kinda glad they didn't win at the end, too.

089. Slapshot 2

I found it funny but not amazing.

090. Push

I REALLY LIKED THIS! I was skeptical at first because of Dakota Fanning's involvement but I enjoyed it.

091. Knowing

I loved this up until the very very end. That annoyed me. So I just pretend that that part didn't happen and the movie ended where it should have. And that's enough for me.

092. Public Enemies

Does anyone really have any doubt about this? Depp + Bale? C'mon.

093. The Proposal

I had very little interest in seeing this but I'm glad we went because it was so funny. Ryan Reynolds is A+ and Sandra Bullock wasn't annoying.

094. House

Typical cheesy horror flick. Even though Bill Mosley was in it, there was nothing redeeming about it.

095. A Haunting In Connecticut

LOVED IT.

096. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

OH SHIA YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A SCHOOLGIRL AGAIN!
Just go watch it. Idc what people say. It was good. Shia's sexy.

097. 12 Rounds

Oh John Cena. Five moves of doom? Four? I don't even remember but whatever. I'm not a Cena lover. BUT. This was a really good movie! Lot of action, yeah, but there was a story with it, and it kept you guessing. Things weren't blowing up just because and shit. And there was a twist that I really liked. Plus Cena didn't play The Indestructable Hardass Man, although there were some moments that I kinda went "riiiiiiight" to. But overall, enjoyable.

098. Camille

James Franco- a recent parolee- and Sienna Miller- a niave, bubbly, overly-talkative sweetheart- are newly weds. He could care less about her, is actually really fucking annoyed by her and horribly mean to her, until he kills her in a motorcycle accident. He finds her dead, races off to find a phone, comes back, and she's up, washing herself off in a creek, insisting that she's fine. He figures out that she's actually dead, decaying and everything, but somehow walking around. Zombie-ish, if you will, but with most of her personality in tact! So as her hair's falling out and he's pumping embalming fluid in her to make the stench go away, he falls in love with her and tries to figure out how to make her stay forever. It was interesting, but kinda boring actually.

099. Race to Witch Mountain

Let me just put it out there: no matter how cheesy, I love movies starring The Rock. And yes, he will always be The Rock/Rocky Miavia/The Great One/Rocky Sucks to me. Always. So that being said- this movie is for tweens/teens, but it's not so over the top cheesy that parents could actually enjoy it too. I, however, totally loved it. The only reason it's not getting a 4th cupcake is because it's so for kids that most of my friends/people my age won't see it or enjoy it. But c'mon people. It's The Rock!

100. Obsessed

Okay, everyone's been coming into Blockbuster asking about this movie and wanting it for months, so I was pretty psyched for it to come into the store because it must be good if that many people want it, right? Wrong. It was so/so, then the ending was super predictable and actually annoying. Beyonce didn't grate on my nerves until the ending and then I was just hoping both of them would die. Big disappointment.

101. Finding Neverland

Being as I absolutely adore Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp I can't believe this movie escaped me for so long. I knew going into it that I would love it, because of them alone, and I wasn't disappointed. Fantastic movie. Those poor little boys! I cried.

102. Fast & the Furious 4

Pure action. The storyline was crap. The crappy third one in Tokyo had a better plot than this. Oh, also, it somehow goes back in time to take place, because the guy in the Tokyo one who bounces back and forth between being good and bad and then dies in a car accident? He's in this one, despite being dead in the 3rd. So this must be between the 2nd and 3rd. Be nice if they told you that, though. Anyway, this is definitely for the male audience that just wants to see fast cars and things blowing up. There isn't even much T&A in it, which I found interesting since that's the audience they're appealing to, but whatever. Less asscrack I had to stare at for 2 hours.

103. Garden Party

Just pointless.

104. 17 Again

Teenage girls will swarm to rent/purchase this, but it's really not that good. Kinda creepy at some points. Like when his daughter hits on him when he's 17.. Or when he kisses his wife, but he's only 17 and she's in her 30's. The best friend/principal thing is a bit over the top. But it wasn't all bad. Had some good laughs.

105. Babylon AD

So a preview for this came on my new cell phone. I had zero interest in seeing it until I saw this preview. Now I'm kinda glad I got the phone plus preview because it was actually good. Vin wasn't over the top or too cheesy, and the plot didn't seem to have too many holes in it (as most Vin movies do). Plus I liked the ending. Why is Vin Diesel so hit or miss?

106. Bratz

Typical tween movie about avoiding cliques and bringing down the bad girl in school. Wasn't the worst, wasn't the best. If you're not 13 you probably won't enjoy it.

107. Labor Pains

Semi-interesting. However, the ending did not please me. I wanted her life to remain a clusterfuck and consequences to arise and they did not. She got a promotion, married, and knocked up. Makes no sense.

108. Waltzing Anna

This was so adorable! It's about a doctor who gets busted scamming old people, billing like 80 yr old women for pregnancy tests and stuff, and his sentence is a 6 month probation to be served at a nursing home in the middle of no where. He goes and is really mean. But the people are precious. Even my brother loved this.

109. Lucky 13

I texted through the entire thing. It didn't keep my attention at all. I still don't get what the 13 had to do with anything because they didn't make any big deal out of the number at all.

110. Cars

My kids all love this so I figured it was finally time to watch it. I now understand it's appeal- it's adorable! Mater is my favorite. It's about a race car with a huge ego that's mostly undeserved and how cars from a small town help him realize what's important in life- his friends and family, not winning trophies at races. Aww. He gains a best friend that's freaking adorable and a girlfriend and does some really nice things for the people who helped him so that's fun too.

111. Hannah Montana The Movie

Surprisingly enough it wasn't cheesy or stupid. It was cute, feel good, and surprisingly serious and mature at times. I liked it.

112. Horsemen

Phenomenal. Up and down and all around it just kept me guessing. I thought I had it figured out, and while I was right about one part, it was the part I was hoping I was wrong about, and it twisted it around from what I thought it would be. Make sense? It shouldn't. Anyway it's about a cop who gets called to these increasingly twisted crime scenes and is neglecting his children while becoming obsessed with these crimes that are starting to tie together and have a meaning to whomever is committing them. The chase for the mastermind is great. So worth watching, especially if you like twisted endings.

113. Last House On The Left

I didn't expect much from this but holy fuck did it deliver. It made me sick to my stomach, it gave me the chills, and it kept me hooked in at every point. I had to stop watching it in the middle to go to work and it was literally all I could think about all night long until I got home and could finish it. Loved it.

114. Duplicity

Julia Roberts as a cold hearted bitch = EPIC FAIL. I was very misled about this one- the previews show it to be semi-comedic and fun, flirty, something you'd expect from her. Not so. In fact it's actually very hard to follow, they bring up things that you think are going to be key to the ending and they aren't, and the ending doesn't really wrap things up. I was very disappointed, as were the people I watched it with.

115. Porky's

FUCKING HILARIOUS.

116. Fighting

Don't waste your time. Channing Tatum .. no words.

117. Gooby

Cute kids movie.

118. The Reef

Kinda tried to be Finding Nemo.

119. Jackass 2.5

Hilarious. As was expected.

120. The Other End Of The Line

Cute but kind of annoyingly sweet.

121. H2

Rob Zombie's Halloween 2. I had really high hopes for this. They were not met. If he'd gotten rid of the horse shit, and not made Michael so human, it would have been superb. Also; Laurie needed to wash her hair and it bugged me. I did enjoy the end, even though it obviously set up for a H3.

122. State of Play

Kept my attention the entire time. That doesn't happen much lately.

123. Snatch

It was a crazy clusterfuck and I just loved it. Brad Pitt was incredible.

124. Mini's First Time

If you're bored and wanna laugh, sure. Rent it.

125. El Superbeasto

It's a Rob Zombie cartoon. Tell me what you expect.

126. Deadgirl

If you want to watch some zombie get brutally raped by teenage boys repeatedly.. this one's for you. It definitely wasn't for me.

127. The Usual Suspects

I really liked the twist. Thumbs up.

128. Observe and Report

Worse than Paul Blart. Like 10x worse.

129. The Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past

Funny, but still a pretty typical chick flick.

130. No Country For Old Men

Loved.

131. National Treasure

Adored it. I wanna go on an adventure like this.

132. National Treasure 2: Book Of Secrets

Fabulous! Just as good as the first.

133. Trick R Treat

Waited for a really long time for this. Waited for absolutely nothing.

134. Children of the Corn (remake)

Decent.

135. Fracture

I wasn't entirely in love with the ending, because I would have liked to see him get away with it. But the rest of the movie, phenomenal.

136. I Love You Beth Cooper

One of the worst teen/hs/whatever flicks I've ever seen. On par with the Bring It On sequels.

137. The Orphan

I did guess the twist but it was still fantastically executed.

138. Ice Age 3: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs

Just as fun as the rest of the Ice Age flicks.

139. Three

This was super interesting until right before the end, when I figured out the end, and it did exactly as I figured.

140. The DaVinci Code

Nowhere near as good as the book. I felt as though it left out a lot of the best elements of the book, to be honest.

141. Pursuit of Happyness

Intense. I cried when they slept on the bathroom floor and he had every inch of it covered in toilet paper.

142. The Librarian- Quest for the Spear

Fun movie. You don't have to think and yet it's still enjoyable.

143. The Librarian- The Return to King Solomon's Mines

Same as the first: Fun movie. You don't have to think and yet it's still enjoyable.

144. Alvin & The Chipmunks

Theodore was SO CUTE! I want one.

145. The Taking of Pelham 123

John Travolta usually grates on my nerves but I loved him in this. He played such a good bad guy. Some bits were slightly confusing but it all came together at the end. And I really, really liked the ending.

146. G. I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra

Pure guy movie; fighting and explosions and no point.

147. Up

Such a sad movie. I want a Kevin. And the fat kid was super cute.

148. The Goods- Live Hard, Sell Hard

God this was awful. Really.

149. Franklyn

Very different, interesting and good.. but once you've seen it, you won't want to watch it again because the ending is ruined.

150. The Ugly Truth

One of the funniest movies I've seen in a really long time. Purchase.

finished: November 08 2009

EXTRAS (kus sometimes I'm an overachiever)

151. The Librarian- Curse of the Judas Chalice

No where near as good as the first two.

152. Jersey Girl

Everyone gives Kevin Smith shit for this flick but I liked it a lot. It's really sad though.

153. Star Trek

I'm not a Trekkie. I've never seen a single episode of the show. But I loved this movie.

154. Four Christmases

Funny, but not as amazing as I'd heard.

155. My Sister's Keeper

Amazing. I haven't read the book and I didn't know what was going to happen, I just knew the general idea: girl sues her parents because she doesn't want them to continue using her body to save her sister, who has cancer. It's so much more than that and it's so sad. I spent the night bawling.

156. Bruno

I found Borat to be really funny so I decided to give Bruno a shot. It's not funny. It's a waste of time.

157. Angels & Demons

158. Santa Clause 2

159. Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause

160. Carriers

161. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

162. Terminator: Salvation

163. Sling Blade

164. All About Steve

165. G-Force

166. 500 Days of Summer

167. Imagine That

168. Paranormal Activity

169. Perfect Getaway

170. Jennifer's Body

movies: 150/2009
