The Feast of Fools
Short description:
The Gala opens with the Feast of Fools, which is much like its medieval counterpart. Guests, expected to be in their finest, will be invited to toast the Princess. As the toast concludes, the event begins; those with powerful abilities are stripped of them and made human, those without (or those with only weak abilities) become fae and the strongest in the room. The borderline - for example, Alec McDowell or the Doctor - who have it better than your average human but still couldn’t take on a powerful fae, could either become entirely human or be elevated for the night. Whichever one the player feels like toying with. The only rule of the Feast is that you aren’t allowed to kill any of the other guests or force any of the other guests to do something against their will. Pretty much anything else is fair game. By sunrise, everything and everyone returns to its original state.
The transformation is fast and only mildly unpleasant; a bit of dizziness, mild nausea, and then it’s over. What they change into is more or less up to you guys; for some established types of fae, you can look at the
NPC page (bearing in mind that the Walkers, Criers, Shades and the Lake are monsters, not fae). For a general overview of the types of fae that exist in the Wood, and the way their magic works, refer to the
Fairies and Magic page.
If you don’t want to play, your character can either a) opt out of the event, or you can b) have them not drink. Bear in mind, if you take option b, your characters will be fair game for everyone who changes - including the lesser fae who are powerful for the night.
