Ellie didn't answer right away. "I'm not sure I ever loved him. Love requires trust. And we were both too scared to trust each other."
"Scared of what?"
"Of what all married couples are afraid of: becoming the other. And we had a third, in the relationship. She wanted him to kill me."
"Nice. Sounds like Zero."
"Zero will never admit it but he does what the woman wants him to. Slater will do for now. He needs direction."
"So if I give him orders, he'll obey me?" DG smirked.
"Well, I suppose it depends on the woman. Or... him. I'm not certain. We should use this as an opportunity. He's been weak of late. What he did to you... is proof of that. He doesn't know his place and he tends to lash out when he's lost. So, logically, we should give him a place."
"You're talking about brain washing."
"Rehabilitation. Your... intended, gives the power all to Zero, by acting emotional. He can't help it. But he will, given time."
"He's been hurt."
"So have I," Ellie returned.
