Finished Conflict Is Not Abuse, which was interesting, though there were several parts where I was going 'Melanie Klein and the paranoid-schizoid position, what?' and feeling that Klein might have been useful to the thought-patterns and emotional problems she was discussing. But that might be me.

Re-read of Kathleen Jowitt, Speak Its Name (2016), as good as I remembered.
Aya de Leon, The Accidental Mistress (Justice Hustlers #3) (2018), which I didn't like quite as much as the earlier books in this sequence - a couple of plot developments that were rather obvious from very early on, and the plot generally didn't seem quite as ( Read more... )

Goodness knows I have researched a lot of rather weird things in my time, but most of that has been on my own dime or minute research grants, and I have not had to round up people to do tests on...

I found this article irksome on a lot of levels - not just the guy himself, who sounds a bit of a prat - ooo, somebody commented adversely on a photo of him, millions of women go 'cry me a river', because if that's the only appearance-shaming you ever encounter, you are a lucky, lucky person and 99.999 recurring% of that is down to gender.

I am fairly hmmmm about this piece on empaths, and wonder if some of those consultant empaths are employing the cold-reading tricks attributed to psychics, but buried in it is actually an interrogation of how useful quivering responsiveness to emotion is and the suggestion that 'empathy alone is not a reliable way of coming to a moral decision', ( Read more... )

O dear yes, this rang a bell: the personality trait they call “the need for drama”, or NFD. I'm not sure those agree/disagree sentences cited are necessarily diagnostic, but I have definitely known people (e.g. former friend 'Q') who had to have a lot of ongoing soap-opera in their lives.
