Hygeia is APPALLED

This lately came to my attention: Let us tell you about the massive new GP data grab the Government would rather you didn’t hear about…: The Government’s plan is to copy your entire GP medical history - including all the most sensitive parts - and make it available for third parties to apply for and buy access. Even though Matt Hancock Directed it to happen he’s not going to tell anyone about it. Neither will Boris.
Okay, while I am furious about the violation of confidential medical records on the level of individual rights to privacy -
- I also find this an entire abomination because it cuts across the the genuine and ethical reasons for aggregating health records of a population for reasons of public health, epidemiology and medical research. Even before mass digitisation of medical records, there were central registers kept relating to certain conditions for which it was extremely pertinent to be able to trace common trends across the general population.
So something which should be a common civic good (generations of Medical Officers of Health and medical statisticians are turning in their graves) is being destroyed for profiteering.
It is at least, within a rather short time-frame, possible to opt-out: info via the link above.
See also, the insidious backdoor takeover of general practices by US health insurance company Centene. (Nye Bevan is also turning in his grave.)
