Week not starting well

Yesterday I was supposed to be having an - already deferred once due to connection issues - video chat with a friend/colleague on academic matters (not entirely my preferred method of interaction), and I got this all set up, and was ready and waiting, and they never turned up. It transpired that they had been having a crisis due to their current employment/residency situation and had had to make a long frantic journey and then collapse. And had not got the notification in a place where it would have notified them.
So that is deferred yet again.

Then, my former workplace email account informed me that it was time to change my password, and the system is weird, in that you don't, as with most, put in the old one and then change it, no, you have to pretend you've lost your password and create a new one.
And the system is deciding that it does not like any of the ones I create, even if they have uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols, and have not previously been used.
Is there a subtext that it should be: uppercase Sumerian, lowercase Akkadian, Mayan numerals, and Enochian symbols? I think we should be told.
I have taken this up with Support, but the link they provided did the exact same thing.

Felt, for a piece I have undertaken to write, I should at least glance at a recent popular work on Teh Victorianz, from a publisher whose previous form does not inspire confidence. Fortunately it was available as an epub at very modest price, but I feel I could have used my Kobo points for some better end.
Not only is it largely irrelevant to what I was looking for, it's cringe-making in how it does it, and it does that thing which I abominate, of uncritically deploying material published in the USA during the period in question.
